As we slowly roll towards the NYE 2024 celebrations, big news hits the fandom with a splash of cosmic sparkles! Game of Thrones‘ Khal Drogo and DCEU’s Aquaman Jason Momoa will now be seen in the fan-favorite role of Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU. What better way to end 2024 than a dream casting coming to life!

Quick details:

  • Jason Momoa will return to the DC universe as Lobo.
  • Momoa previously played Aquaman in DCEU.
  • Fans are happy with Momoa’s casting as Lobo.

Jason Momoa confirmed to play Lobo in DCU

Jason Momoa has come a long way in Hollywood, from struggling to pay rents to grabbing some of the biggest roles. His career did see a rise after Game of Thrones and Justice League, and was at its peak when he played the titular role in Aquaman. However, after DCEU’s downfall, all hopes to see him back were crushed.

However, Momoa and Gunn surprised us all with an announcement that initially sounded too good to be true. Momoa captioned a post “they called” on Instagram, with a snippet of a 2023 story where he had hoped to play Lobo one day. And what’s more, Gunn welcomed him with open arms in the comments!

After DCEU’s demise and the complete revamp by James Gunn, it seemed very unlikely that Gunn would bring back an actor from the dead franchise. But dreams do come true, as we can see in Momoa’s case. So cheers to hopes and dreams!

Fans are delighted with Jason Momoa’s casting

Jason Momoa’s casting as Lobo was also one that was highly requested by DC fans. While he did elevate Aquaman’s status in DC’s pantheon with his brash charm, fans too, like Momoa, dreamed of seeing him as the space-faring bounty hunter. The internet exploded when the casting news was confirmed:

Momoa is expected to appear as Lobo in House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, which is currently in the works. Talk about a Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon union!
