Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau discusses Jaime Lannister's uncertain fate

One of the shocks that Game of Thrones season 7 episode 4 ‘The Spoils of War’ dropped was that of Jaime Lannister being nearly toasted alive by Drogon’s flames. Fans all over the world were shocked out of their minds because a main character was about to die in such unfortunate circumstances. After Daenerys unleashed the Dothraki upon an unsuspecting Lannister army and Bronn managed to injure Drogon with the ballistae arrow, Jaime took it upon himself to kill Dany in one stroke and end the whole thing. But that obviously didn’t go so well for him. Drogon, although injured, was quick to protect his mother and almost took Jaime’s life, but he was saved at the last minute and thrown into a pool where we saw him drowning. Whether Jaime survives this and becomes a prisoner of war yet again is uncertain until the next episode, but suffice it to say that the end of this episode was pretty unbelievable. Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister, weighs in on his character’s uncertain fate.

He spoke to EW about the Lannister army being mercilessly incinerated.“Even though Daenerys is the hero and the Lannisters are the villains, being burned alive is not great,” he said. “It’s a terrifying thing when this monster flamethrower comes along and incinerates thousands and thousands of men who are just doing their job.”

He went on to talk about how the script directors of the show had revealed that one of their main characters was about to die in said episode.

“Jaime is such an idiot that he thinks for a second, ‘If I can do this, I can win the whole thing in a Hail Mary,’”he said.

Nikolaj didn’t reveal if Jaime is going to survive of course, given the cliffhanger at which the episode was left, but we can only hope that the fan favourite character makes it through despite what Nikolaj had predicted earlier on:“It’s not going to end well for Jaime Lannister, I can’t imagine.”
