“Ewwwww!”: Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington react to their characters’ lovemaking scene in season 7 finale

Game of Thrones began with incest back in season 1 episode 1, and here we were again, witnessing the union of a nephew and an aunt inside a boat while the teenage mutant three-eyed raven Bran Stark revealed that Jon Snow, ahem, Aegon Targaryen, is the legitimate son of Rhaegar and Lyanna. Ned Stark’s best kept secret finally came out and like two uncontrollable Targaryen maniacs, Jon(Aegon) and Dany were busy canoodling on a boat.

EW spoke to actors Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington, who play Daenerys ad Jon respectively, about how their characters might react when they find out that some inappropriate stuff happened between blood relatives.

Emilia echoed what any sane person would react as. “Ewwwww!” she said. “I think that’s how it’s going to go. I get the toothbrush–” and then she pretended to brush her tongue.

Ew, is the right reaction, Emilia. But that’s not what most fans are doing right now. Plus, the reveal was pretty big about Jon actually being the true heir to the Iron Throne, which it was overridden by boatsex. When asked about how Daenerys has always expected to have avoided the incest in her Targaryen lineage, Emilia said, “Exactly! And then I walked back into it.”

She also said that she’s worked too hard to gain the Iron Throne only to have it taken by the true heir. “I’ve worked so hard, I don’t want to share that throne,” Emilia said. “No. The throne’s big enough for one dragon bum, and that’s mine. That’s it!”

Emilia noted when exactly Dany knew she was falling for Jon. “She’s just like: Why don’t I want you do go? Why don’t I want you — doooooon’tfall for him. Don’t do it! There’s a battle going in on herself.”

Kit Harington also spoke about how Jon and Dany might react upon this reveal. “I said to Emilia it’s going to be a really cool scene when they find out.”

About how it would impact their new relationship,  he said, “That part of it, I can’t predict. It could be them walking off into the sunset. It could be them killing each other.”

Although we’re glad the stars had a lot of fun filming the Jonerys scenes, we’re still busy recovering from all the emotional trauma the finale of season 7 has caused us. The stars also discussed some behind the scenes quips and jokes they shared. Read the entire interview here.
