Chris Pine says Dungeons & Dragons movie is like ‘Game of Thrones mixed with a little Princess Bride’

Game of Thrones was an epic fantasy, there’s no doubt about it. There’s yet to be another show that has come close to the quality and popularity that George R. R. Martin’s creation achieved, but the future is looking bright and we have several contenders. One of them is Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, which is itself an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s 14-book series. Even several films are taking inspiration from the world of Westeros. Recently, Hollywood star Chris Pine compared his upcoming Dungeons and Dragons film with shows like Princess Bride and Game of Thrones.
In an interview with Collider, Pine said, “The way that I’ve been describing it, it’s like Game of Thrones mixed with a little Princess Bride, just a smidge of [Monty Python and the] Holy Grail; it’s somewhere in that ballpark. It’s a lot of fun. It’s got a lot of thrills. It’s poppy, it’s eighties heartfelt, there’s a bit of Goonies in there.”
The Dungeons & Dragons movie is an upcoming action-adventure/comedy that will be based on the popular pen and paper game of the same name. Pine went on to describe his character as the “ultimate party planner”. He also praised directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, saying, “They know comedy and they know heart and we had a great cast and we had a good time making it. And that’s all you can ask for.”
