BREAKING! HBO has been hacked and some Game of Thrones data has been leaked online
July 31st, 10:18pm July 31st, 10:18pm Rahul JadhavFounder at Wiki of Thrones and a full-time Game of Thrones fan who does other work when he has finished reading and writing about Game of Thrones and also dreams about playing a role in the show.
HBO has experienced a cyber attack and it turns out that data related to its shows has been leaked online and it even includes the hit TV series Game of Thrones! Entertainment Weekly has confirmed reports of the hacking and it also reports that the upcoming episodes of few of HBO series have been released online and the leaks also include some written material from the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones, with a threat of more data to be released soon. HBO has also confirmed the incident and has released a statement addressing the serious issue.
“HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information. We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.“
It has been claimed that the hackers have stolen around 1.5 TB of data from HBO and some of it has been released online, which includes the upcoming episodes of Ballers and Room 104 allegedly, some written material from the upcoming Game of Thrones episode has also been leaked.
EW has also shared the email that HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler has sent to its employees.
“As most of you have probably heard by now, there has been a cyber incident directed at the company which has resulted in some stolen proprietary information, including some of our programming,” he wrote. “Any intrusion of this nature is obviously disruptive, unsettling, and disturbing for all of us. I can assure you that senior leadership and our extraordinary technology team, along with outside experts, are working round the clock to protect our collective interests. The efforts across multiple departments have been nothing short of herculean. It is a textbook example of quintessential HBO teamwork. The problem before us is unfortunately all too familiar in the world we now find ourselves a part of. As has been the case with any challenge we have ever faced, I have absolutely no doubt that we will navigate our way through this successfully.”
Many reporters received an anonymous email this Sunday, which announced the leaks: “Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling.”
So far there has been no information regarding the exact nature of the leaks and what it includes. As of now, no Game of Thrones episodes have been leaked online. If the hackers release the upcoming Game of Thrones episode, it won’t be the first time such a thing has happened. In the past, Game of Thrones episodes have found their way online, with the first 4 episodes of season 5 being leaked simultaneously and even last season, an episode was released online, few hours before it was supposed to air.
Right now we don’t have much information about the hacks and we will keep you updated as soon as we find out more information regarding the leaks.
