A genius Game of Thrones fan has decoded Sansa Stark's mysterious letter
In Game of Thrones season 6 episode 7, The Broken Man, we all saw how Jon, Sansa and Ser Davos got busy trying to gather an army to march agains the Boltons, but we also saw how they were kicked out of most of the places, apart from getting 62 men from the fiesty Lady Mormont of Bear Island. Amidst this chaos, Sansa Stark (or wait, is it Lannister or Bolton?) was seen sitting down to write a letter. What this letter said, however, nobody could figure out thanks to all of the mystery that the showrunners love to create. But whatever the show does, fans decipher it better.
Redditor CreepyPancakes went on to translate this message by zooming in, taking a screenshot, and flipping the letter upside down so as to be able to read it. And this ingenious method has managed to reveal what she wrote in the letter. The decoded letter was posted on Imgur and it goes like this: “[…] promised(?) to protect me. Now you have a chance to fulfill your promise […] Knights of the Vale are under your command. Ride north for Winterfell. Lend us your aid and I shall see that you are well rewarded.”
Here’s the process that CreepyPancakes followed while decoding the letter.
Step 1: Find the picture
Step 2: Invert it
Step 3: Zoom in!
Step 4: Enhance! Enhance! ENHANCE!!
The translation process was also explained by the fan as, “I’ve traced the legible words in black, and the barely legible (plus educated guesses on the missing ones, based on surrounding words) in red. ‘north’ and ‘rewarded’ are legible in other shots of the letter, such as when she stamps it. Question marks indicate a dubious word, but the most likely.” In other words: it might not be exact, but it’s probably pretty close.”
This revelation has now given more boost to two of the popular theories about Sansa going around on the internet these days. The first, and most obvious theory, is that she might have written to Littlefinger about getting the Knights of the Vale to fight for her, and the other theory suggests that Sansa might actually be trying to contact her cousin Robin Arryn for his help.
It only makes the subject more curious, and we simply can’t wait until the next episode!
