Russian cement company is set to 3D print a life-size copy of Winterfell
If you’ve ever wished to visit Winterfell from Game of Thrones and dreamt about sitting under the Weirwood tree, your wish might just be able to come true. However, you might have to visit Russia to access a real-life Winterfell. TheYekaterinburg Cement Company in Russia will be using its industrial 3D printer to build a full-scale reproduction of the Stark family home. The company says that the project will be finished by the end of September.
Rinat Brilin, the Yekaterinburg Cement Factory manager, who is very excited about the project, said,“Why this castle? First of all, it is, in my view, very beautiful. And it also demands the use of many new technologies to construct that simpler buildings don’t require.”
The 3D printer version of Winterfell requires only three specialists, which is led by a computer programmer, who is in charge of injecting a steady flow of quick-drying cement into sections of a pre-constructed steel frame that matches the dimensions of the 3D blueprint. The printer isn’t much different in operation than a normal desktop 3D printer, extruding material and fabricating an object layer by layer. In order to show off the technology of the cement factory, Brilin says that Winterfell was the perfect choice. When its one, he says he hopes it can be left as a tourist destination, but doesn’t know for how long.

Even though a trip to Russia is a big deal in itself, if the real-life version of Winterfell turns out to be near perfect, Game of Thrones fans will surely be flocking to Russia to be present at the iconic places like the tower that Bran was pushed from, where Wylis became Hodor. You can check out the Russian news report for the same, even though its hardly possible to understand unless you can speak the language, it can still be enjoyed nonetheless.
