James Gunn cast Milly Alcock as Supergirl after watching House of the Dragon
Things are looking bright for Game of Thrones and DC fans, as they have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. The second season of House of the Dragon is scheduled for later this year. While the much-awaited rebooted universe of James Gunn‘s DCU will begin to prepare for its launch. The connecting link being House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock, who was recently cast as Supergirl in the DCU.
Milly Alcock is the first actor that James Gunn thought of while drafting Supergirl
Milly Alcock was the clear favorite to play James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Supergirl in the DC Extended Universe for a very long time. After vying with Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly for the role, Alcock was ultimately selected as Supergirl.
After the news was made public, Gunn took to Threads to make the announcement himself,
“In case you missed this exciting news yesterday. Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter (Safran) for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics.”

House of the Dragon played a big role in Alcock’s casting as the Woman of Steel. Gunn, having watched her portrayal of young Rhaenyra, further said, “I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes. “

Alcock’s Supergirl might be making her debut in the upcoming DCU film Superman: Legacy.
