The tourney in House of the Dragon Season 1 reflected rich Westerosi culture
With the debut of House of The Dragon Season 1 last year, fans who had been waiting years for a Game of Thrones prequel finally got what they had been hoping for. George R. R. Martin correctly predicted that House of The Dragon would succeed following its premiere with the first episode. The tourney in the first episode held a lot of significance, showing off Westerosi culture being one of them.
House of the Dragon has the same DNA as Game of Thrones
In a recent interview with Deadline, the show’s supervising Sound Editor Al Sirkett said, “I knew having them on the team would help create a world that was not specifically identical to that of Game of Thrones, but it definitely helped to have them as part of the continuing DNA of this new show.”
“With Paula [Fairfield]’s fantastic work on creating the dragons’ voices and personalities, and the rich textured crowd work and attention to detail that Tim [Hands] always brings to his work, building these new grand scale environments was always going to come from the same headspace as Game of Thrones.”
The tourney in House of the Dragon was culturally significant
Costume supervisor Joanna Lynch elaborated, “[The tournament] showcased a wide variety of costumes on both principal cast and the crowd—handmade bespoke armor, castle life, King’s Landing citizens, royal courtiers and our lords and ladies from all over Westeros.”
