Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows on the planet, as it is no surprise that it is also the most pirated TV shows of all times. Being as popular as it is, it is also quite prone to leaks, and we remember that from the time four episodes of Season 5 were leaked. Now, however, HBO is facing a much bigger hack, one we recently reported about. Hackers claim to have stolen a lot of data, 1.5 TB, as per their claim, and are planning on releasing it unless they are paid a hefty sum, they said in a video letter addressed to HBO CEO Richard Plepler. Read on!
We reported recently about how the hackers sent an e-mail to The Hollywood Reporter with some of the contents of the leak. The contents of the letter that they wrote to Plepler have now been revealed, in a new report by WIRED. The note read as written by “Mr. Smith,” and says that HBO has three days to pay the hackers a sum of $7 million, or they will start unloading the data. It goes on to talk about a lot of ways the leak could hurt HBO including a claim of how they have documents that can incriminate HBO for tax evasion. The video ends with the hackers asking HBO to choose between whether HBO will be standing or falling, complete with a picture of the Night King.
The hackers also say that they are ‘white hat’ hackers, and that money isn’t their main purpose. The apparently just want a tiny share of HBO’s earnings, while claiming that they earn $12-15 million from such jobs alone. HBO spokesperson just said that they are working with the authorities to resolve this, but didn’t comment on the ransom. What do you think HBO will do? Will they pay off these ‘white hat’ hackers? Or will they manage to fight it off? Tell us in the comments, down below!
