George R.R. Martin confirms Game of Thrones showrunners mostly kept him “out of the loop” after Season 4
Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is one of the most anticipated shows of 2022. However, when the teaser trailer first came out, many people were skeptical whether the spinoff show would be as good as the original series. A few more were worried if the infamous showrunner duo would return to “ruin” House of The Dragon as well. And they were right to do so, as Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin himself confirmed his involvement in the series went on to become miniscule as the show progressed after Season 4.
In a new interview with the New York Times, Martin revealed the showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss reduced his role considerably after the fourth season. He said, “By Season 5 and 6, and certainly 7 and 8, I was pretty much out of the loop.”
On being asked why they did so, Martin replied:
“I don’t know — you have to ask Dan and David.”
Weiss and Benioff declined the Times‘ request for comment.
This confirms a lot of fans’ suspicion, and gives a renewed hope to those anxiously waiting for House of The Dragon. This is because the prequel’s showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik seem to be “superfans” of George R. R. Martin, and give off a very chummy and respectful vibe whenever they’re together on stage or for a podcast.
