Interview
Gwendoline Christie on how Brienne of Tarth helped with her portrayal of Lucifer in The Sandman

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie’s acting resume has exploded into a plethora of wide-ranging roles in some of the biggest franchises. From Hunger Games to The Mandalorian, she has amazed everyone with her acting chops, and is now entering the DC universe with the highly awaited Netflix series ‘The Sandman’. Christie will be joining her Game of Thrones co-star, Charles Dance, in the show, and will play a gender-swapped version of Lucifer. We have already seen a few glimpses of her character, and she looks amazing in the role.
In a recent interview with Empire, Christie explained how her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones might have helped with her preparation for Lucifer in the upcoming series. She recalled, “I was so thrilled [co-showrunner Allen Heinberg] asked me to play Lucifer because it is a grandiose part. There are few castings that can supersede that – maybe God, whatever that is! Also, it’s fun to be awful.”
Christie continued, “Neil clarified that Lucifer is a fallen angel, and that an angel doesn’t have gender at all. And I can play androgynous. We know that from Game Of Thrones, due to the way I look. So I hope that has helped in the portrayal of the character.”
