Game of Thrones Season 7 action will make past battles look like “child's play”, says sound designer Paula Fairfield
Game of Thrones Season 7 is about a week away, and we can’t wait. It has been hyped up like never before, and we have to say, HBO‘s press techniques worked quite well. Now, we know for a fact, irrespective of the hype bias, that Game of Thrones Season 7 will be the best Game of Thrones season yet, just from the behind the scenes details that we have till now. As some of you might already be knowing, the Game of Thrones fan convention, called Con of Thrones, was recently held, and a lot of hype this week was sourced from the same. Paula Fairfield, the sound designer for Game of Thrones, was on the Bringing Westeros to Lifepanel, and she said that the action sequences in Season 7 are so good, they will make past battle scenes look like “child’s play.” Read on!
Fairfield said this while speaking on the panel, following which, she was interviewed by Game of Thrones fan site, Winter is Coming, where she spoke some more about the show. She gave away a very vague spoiler, talking about her dog Angel, whose noises are used for some of the ‘wolf scenes’ this season :
“My best work is going crazy and finding the edges, playing with sounds that are emotionally charged. There’s a beautiful wolf scene this season and all of the wolf noises are [Angel].”
Okay! So we’re getting a beautiful wolf scene. Could it be Arya finally reuniting with Nymeria? She also hyped up the dragon scenes for us :
“Each year, they get a budget for a few more dragon shots and they have to be very careful how they use them. Not so much this year. Not so much anymore. There’s not so much having to hold back and plan, because there’s a lot of dragon action this year, and it’s fabulous.”
She also said that she had to upgrade her sounds to match the new size of the dragons, which we know are going to be massive, this time around. She also spoke about the language that the producers had made for the White Walkers to speak, called Skroth, but which was ultimately scraped off :
“They just are bigger than language. Language was demeaning to them to speak…It was just beneath them. They were beyond that…There’s something primal, mystical and deep about that.”
