Game of Thrones’ Jonathan Pryce awarded knighthood for services to drama and charity
Game of Thrones remains the most successful show to have ever filmed on television. It set the bar for television filming really high, with record viewership and budget. The fantasy series still holds the record for the most number of Emmy Awards won. The cast of the show is highly decorated as well. Jonathan Pryce has been awarded knighthood for his services to drama and charity. The Game Of Thrones star has been recognised for his acting talents and charity work in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The 74-year-old has said that the arts show ‘the importance of debate and tolerance’ as he received his honour. In a statement, he explained: “That the UK continues to honour those that work in the arts. Acknowledges the great contribution artists make to the way we live our lives.”
“When I began work at the Liverpool Everyman under Alan Dosser in 1972, I saw theatre as an implement of change – to entertain and to inform. The arts remind people to be kinder, more understanding, questioning and to be more empathetic. ‘It shows people the importance of debate and tolerance. These last few divisive years have shown the need for that more than ever.”
He added: “After almost 50 years as an actor I am proud to think that the work and ideals that I have shared with my friends and colleagues is being honoured in this way.”
Last year, Pryce won the BAFTA Cymru award. Congratulate the veteran actor on his great achievement in the comments below!
Well, as we all know already, American politics is no stranger to being the butt of jokes, and the only other place with politics that are as messed up, is Westeros. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise when analogies are often made between the two. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday suggested that there were more leaks under former President Trump than there are now. It was due to infighting among administration officials during the previous four years, comparing it to Game of Thrones.
“There’s not a lot of ‘Game of Thrones’ drama here, which feels like it may be a bit of … a shift from the last four years,” Psaki said when asked about the lack of leaks to the media at a conference hosted by the Financial Times.
Psaki said many White House staffers have a long history of working with Biden, and that’s created a different kind of atmosphere in the West Wing. “The culture of this White House is very much a put your head down. Get to work, do your thing, be a part of the team,” she said.
“He actually enjoys that back and forth and takes questions, I think. More than almost most presidents in modern history. In terms of the frequency of how often he takes questions from reporters,” she said, noting that Biden answered questions shouted by reporters at least 77 times in his first 100 days in office, according to a presidential historian.
“I think this has been a little bungled out there, [me] walking out the door on day 365,” Psaki concluded. “I have flexibility and can stay longer and likely will stay longer.”

There were many side characters on Game of Thrones, but few were as funny as Jerome Flynn’s Bronn. The actor once joked about how he improvised on set by grabbing Daniel Portman’s (Pod) crotch in a scene. Everyone’s favourite sellsword was kind of forgotten in the final season. Jerome Flynn, however, has joined the campaigners taking legal action against the UK government to ban factory farming.
The Game of Thrones star is an ambassador for Scrap Factory Farming – led by renowned human rights lawyer Michael Mansfield QC. Non-profit Humane Being is behind the campaign – which is crowdfunding the £60,000 needed for the judicial review of government policy. It is an entirely volunteer-run initiative that calls for an end of intensive farming methods to prevent further pandemics.
In a statement sent to PBN, Flynn said: “It is starkly clear to me that there cannot be a future for mankind in a world where factory farms still exist.
“This is our time now to put things right…”
Last year, lawyers acting for Humane Being wrote to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It queried the government’s plans regarding factory farming and related threats to human health.
However, the organization says Defra’s response ‘played down’ the issues linked to factory farming. Now, the legal team has filed the court action and papers have been served to Defra.

Some actors are so good at portraying a character that we end up thinking they’re born for this role. When you think of the character, that actor pops in your head first automatically. Pedro Pascal is one of the most successful actors in the entertainment industry currently. He has a number of memorable roles under his belt such as Game of Thrones’ charming Oberyn Martell. Currently, he has gained a huge fan following for playing the role of Din Djarin on The Mandalorian. With so many decade-defining roles up his sleeve, no wonder fans would love to see him more on the silver screen. Pascal will now appear in Casillero advertising for TV, video and social media.
Further details of the campaign, titled ‘Wine Legend’ and set to run later this year, were not disclosed.
“The selection of Pedro Pascal as the new legend is a historic event for Casillero del Diablo, as it marks our first appointment of a global brand ambassador,” said Casillero’s global marketing director, Sebastián Aguirre. “Pascal is a celebrity well known around the world who is enjoying an extraordinary moment in his career.”
Earlier this year, Concha y Toro broke Casillero’s Chile exclusivity, unveiling a Tempranillo varietal from Spain in the UK. The group has started the year well, posting an 8% lift in sales from the three months to the end of March.
Last year, Pascal was named the Entertainer of the Year by Entertainment Weekly magazine. What do you think of Pascal’s selection as the ambassador? Tell us in the comments below!
