Game of Thrones’ Miltos Yerolemou compares Syrio Forel with Star War’s Obi-Wan Kenobi

Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) talks about Game of Thrones spinoffs and his time after finishing the show

The entertainment universe is filled with heroes who saved the world in their respective shows/movies time after time. Game of Thrones has Arya Stark, Star Wars had Luke Skywalker, and so on. However, the path that these heroes would take would never have been possible without the guidance of their respective teachers. Miltos Yerolemou, who rose to fame after playing Arya’s sword instructor Syrio Forel on Game of Thrones, recently talked to Collider in an interview. He believes Syrio is Arya’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, in more ways than one.

Miltos talked about the ultimate fate of his character, “So, there was ambiguity there. But ultimately, each time I answered that question, I would formulate a clearer idea of really what happened. And to me, it makes a lot of sense because I remember asking George, who wrote the episode — Episode 8 in the first season — I remember asking him, “Why don’t you answer the question that everyone has asked since you wrote that chapter in the book? Why don’t you do that?” And he said, “That isn’t what I want to do. That doesn’t serve my narrative purpose.” And that’s all he would say. I understood it.”

“And yet, now I really understand it because to me, it makes a lot of sense that you don’t get the traumatic ending of Syrio, because in the books Arya remembers his words. It’s like the training is kept alive, in the same way … I keep going back to Star Wars. The presence of Obi-Wan Kenobi is still there because he’s kind of still there. No one really ever dies. That kind of thing.”

“It’s not mystical in the same way as Star Wars. But the resonance and the echo of the words, the mantra, the training is alive in her head. And I think the ambiguity allows that to exist. And if she’d seen him cut down, I think it wouldn’t have the same effect on her, or it would be too traumatic for it to live on in her head in the same way. So, as a narrative device, I think it’s brilliant. And I think that is the reason why George did it. I think that is the reason why, ultimately, Syrio Forel sacrifices himself to save this girl he barely knows. And that’s also very poetic. And also, there aren’t that many good guys in Game of Thrones, so you got to have at least a couple.”

For many Game of Thrones fans worldwide, Syrio was in a class of his own. He became a fan-favourite, even though he did not have much screen presence. What do you think of Miltos Yerolemou’s Syrio Forel? Tell us in the comments below!

Emilia Clarke responds to Qi’ra’s surprise Star Wars return and Game of Thrones prequel

Emilia Clarke is one of the most familiar faces from the vast cast of Game of Thrones. Though she is famous mostly for her role ‘Daenerys Targaryen’ on the show, she has played major characters in various projects over the past few years. Emilia portrayed Qi’ra in the Star Wars spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story. Clarke has responded to the return of her Solo character to the Star Wars universe, admitting it “means so much”.

Taking place more than 10 years after the events of the 2018 movie, War of the Bounty Hunters #1 reveals that Qi’ra is still a pivotal player in the crime syndicate. After she abandoned Han to join them at the end of Solo.

Emilia told ComicBook.com, “It means the absolute world. I know her backstory. I know her history. Maybe the movie didn’t get to go there, but that was such an honour and a privilege to be part of that universe as an actor.”

So then, to see the character actually be taken on to the origin of all of it – bringing it on home to the family in that way – cemented it in a way. I was not expecting to feel as moved as I was by that.”

Emilia also appeared to be highly excited about the Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon. She said, “It’s just inevitable. I wish you all the best, it’s gonna be whatever it will be, but of course they’re doing more. You can’t create something that big and not have people go, ‘And? What else? This is really good! Let’s do loads more!’”

Teen Wolf creator reveals how Game of Thrones influenced Allison’s Death on the show

Teen Wolf creator reveals how Game of Thrones influenced Allison’s Death on the show

Game of Thrones was the biggest blockbuster show of the 21st century. It raised the bar for quality shows to unprecedented levels. However, as the series constantly reached new heights of success, other contemporary shows had to face the brunt of the competition. Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis admitted that Game of Thrones’ rising popularity was one of the reasons why Allison Argent, one of the main characters, was killed off on the show.

Premiering on MTV in 2011, the series was loosely based on the 1985 Michael J. Fox movie of the same name. The series followed Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), a teenaged werewolf who takes on the responsibility of protecting the town of Beacon Hills while also juggling the stresses of high school and family.

In the first three seasons of Teen Wolf, the romantic relationship between Scott and Allison (Crystal Reed) was a big part of the show’s focus. That’s why it came as a shock when, at the end of season 3, Allison was killed off. Although this occurred partly because Reed wanted to leave the series, Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis admits that other factors influenced Allison’s fate. Including, it seems, Game of Thrones.

Speaking with E! Online, he said, “I don’t know if I would’ve done it now, but back then, it was the time of Game of Thrones’ big death and it was all about which character could you kill off to shock the audience? There was a lot of pressure to kill a main character. I remember the network saying you have to kill someone off. And me being like, ‘I don’t want to kill anyone, they’re like my children!’”
