Kit Harington doesn’t want to play silent characters like Jon Snow anymore
Jon Snow was one of the pivotal characters in HBO’s epic fantasy show the Game of Thrones. He was a heroic character who took every wound silently, whether it was physical or emotional. Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow for over 9 years revealed he doesn’t want to play such emotionally repressed character anymore.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Harington reflected how the idea of ‘inherited male trauma’ stops men from being honest about their emotions. He said, “I feel that emotionally men have a problem, a blockage, and that blockage has come from the Second World War, passed down from grandfather to father to son.”
“We do not speak about how we feel because it shows weakness, because it is not masculine. Having portrayed a man who was silent, who was heroic, I feel going forward that is a role I don’t want to play any more. It is not a masculine role that the world needs to see much more of.”
Kit will now be seen in Netflix’s psychological thriller Criminals Season 2. He plays the role of a smug estate agent, who is accused of rape. He gets frustrated when questioned about the same in the trailer. The show’s setting gives you chills as he establishes himself as a self-entitled rich guy who gets what he wants.
Harington’s new character is a far cry from his bumbling, humble, and heroic character of Jon Snow. Snow was a simple-minded, emotionally repressed hero who knew nothing. Whereas Kit’s new role is of a cunning, perverted, and loud estate agent. He does not hold back his frustration.

The Red Wedding year 2020 took a toll on our everyday life. It diminished our outgoing activities to a bare minimum. The COVID-19 pandemic forced people to stay behind closed doors and avoid any physical interaction. No wonder, the dating scenario under the lockdown period changed dramatically. Tim Landers, the Irish actor who played a brother of the Night’s Watch on Game of Thrones, recalled one such incident with Sunday World.
The 54-year-old actor participated in a reality TV show named First Dates. He reminisced, “It was the Gibson Hotel as usual and I had my mask on when I arrived up and was met by the production staff, who also had masks on. They explained what was going to happen. But they want to maintain I was just arriving on the date, so that was filmed later.”
“When I met Matteo (the maître d’) he was behind a screen when I met him when I came in. Then when the date started I was waiting at the bar at a seat two metres from him. When we were brought over to the table we were amazed to find there was a huge distance between us on a very long table, maybe four or five metres away from each other.”
“They had to do what they had to do under the precautions,” Tim points out. “I feel I was told everything. It wasn’t like I didn’t know, it was fine. And he was lovely, a very funny guy. We had a lot in common.”

Game of Thrones was an astonishing tale that amassed record viewership in the past decade. The fantastical drama was an indispensable part of life for both the show’s crew and the audience. Many of the show’s cast members have admitted that the show influenced their life and career in a big way. (Like Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei)). Irish actor Tim Landers recently opened up about his time on Game of Thrones in an interview with Sunday World.
Landers landed the role of Kegs, one of the brothers at Night’s Watch. “I got the part of Kegs, I was one of the Night’s Watch,” he notes. “I had one line in episode eight, the Mountain and the Viper. It’s a very important line from the book, ‘the rains of Castamere’. The way I was treated was fantastic. They put me in a trailer and said ‘hang on there’ and it turned out the actor sharing it with me was Jason Barry, who is from Dublin and was in Titanic, which blew my mind.”
“I remember arriving on set and I said ‘I’m in Lord of the Rings’, which I was a huge fan of, it was the closest I could put it down to.”
He added, “I didn’t get to meet to any of the big names but my buddy who plays my wench, we were in a brothel, my buddy was Lois Winstone, who is Ray Winstone’s daughter. We both get killed in the scene. I was killed off camera by a guy with a hatchet and she was killed by an arrow fired by Rose, the girl who’s married to Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) in real life.”

Game of Thrones was a mystical journey of a lifetime, for both the cast and the audience alike. When you have worked at a place for nearly a decade, the memories become a part of you. The little pranks played by your co-workers, the overtime and making friends, you miss it all. However, Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke would certainly not miss a particular event from her time on the show. She recently talked to InStyle and shared her experience post-Game of Thrones.
Clarke reminisced wearing a wig for her role. She said, “That wig did wonders — bloody hell. It was like walking around with a permanent bounce. I was reminiscing with Kit [Harington, Jon Snow in GOT] the other day about the hours we pulled and how hard the work was. There’s a grieving process that goes on after the show, obviously, but I think we are now both finally at the point where we can say, “What bits do we miss?” It’s kind of like remembering a relationship.”
Emilia remembered the time when she decided to bleach her hair and faced terrible consequences. She recalled, “Fuck, yeah. [laughs] I decided to bleach my hair blond because I wanted it to be Daenerys’s colour for the last season. My hair was so fried that I basically had to cut it all off, like a proper Leonardo DiCaprio, Romeo + Juliet boy cut. Now my hair has naturally grown out. I give it more nourishment than you could possibly imagine. It’s my proudest achievement, and I don’t plan on cutting it ever again. I’m going to be 90 with it down to my bum — that’s my plan.”
