Game of Thrones has always been a favourite at the awards, and looks like the 2019 awards season won’t be any different. The biggest of them all, the Primetime Emmy Awards, today revealed the nominations for 2019 and Game of Thrones has set a new record, with an all-time high nomination count of 32. Read on!

The nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards 2019 were announced today, and Game of Thrones got the most nominations in a year by any drama series, ever. The 32 nomination record adds to Game of Thrones’ existing record of 47 Emmy wins, which already makes it the most Emmy-winning primetime series in history, a record it’s expected to carry forward this year.

The nominations do some much-needed justice. We have the usual Outstanding Drama Series, followed by lead actor and actress, with Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) nominated. Following up are the supporting actor and actress categories, with nominees being Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark). Also in the mix is Carice van Houten (Melisandre) in the Outstanding Guest Actress category.

Other nominations are for writing, for which the showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss being nominated for the series finale, and direction, with all directors for the final season getting a nomination. Production design, casting, cinematography, editing, costumes, and makeup, title design, and music composition make up the remaining nominations.

Needless to say, Game of Thrones is expected to win a lot of these categories. Special mention goes to the unofficial nominees that we had reported about earlier, of which Alfie Allen, Gwendoline Christie and Carice Van Houten made the cut. The awards ceremony will take place on 15th September.
