12 things we learned from the Game of Thrones season 7 photos
Recently HBO released 15 official photos from Game of Thrones season 7 and everyone (including us) was really excited to see the pictures as they had a lot to reveal about the upcoming season and also the season premiere is almost 3 months away and the fans finally got to see some content from the season 7. We have gone through the photos many times and we have come across some interesting things in these photos. Some of them are easy to spot, while for some, it took a lot of examination and some were pointed out by other Eagle-eyed fans. Here are the 12 things we learned from the Game of Thrones season 7 photos:
1. Jaime with his new sword
At the end of Game of Thrones season 6, when Jaime returned to King’s Landing, he was shocked to see the destruction that was caused by Cersei and the look that Jaime gave Cersei convinced many fans that he was really pissed with her and that he might stop supporting her but the above photo shows that Jaime is still with Cersei and now he has a new sword with him. The sword Jaime is wielding is the Widow’s Wail, which we last saw in Game of Thrones season 4, when Tywin Lannister gifted it to Joffrey Baratheon as a wedding gift. You can read in detail about this photo over here.
A few months ago we had posted about Jaime Lannister with his new sword and now this picture officially confirms the news.
2. Lyanna Mormont isn’t done talking and Ser Davos gets a promotion
The above photo indicates that the scene continues from where we left off in Game of Thrones season 6 finale. We are sure that Lyanna “Badass” Mormont is going to give another fiery speech and the sly Littlefinger might be looking at Sansa trying to bring her on his side with his usual scheming and divisive tactics.
It’s good to see Ser Davos Seaworth on the main table at Winterfell, next to the King in the North, Jon Snow. Ser Davos appears to be listening to someone and that’s all we can guess at the moment.
3. Gilly reads about The Lord of Light and Azor Ahai
Samwell Tarly and Gilly finally reached the Citadel in Game of Thrones season 6 finale but Samwell was told that women aren’t allowed inside the Citadel. That’s why the above picture is a happy one as Gilly is sitting with Samwell and reading and that Samwell isn’t wearing the black robes of the Night’s Watch. However, that’s not where it ends as the most interesting part of the picture needs some zooming. If you look carefully, Gilly is reading about the Lord of Light and Azor Ahai, which is interesting as they might be the ones who might be able to identify who the Lord of Light is. We have gone into detail about this photo over here.
4. Bran Stark and Meera Reed looking at the Wall
In season 6, Benjen Stark rescued Bran Stark and Meera Reed and safely dropped them closer to the Wall, where Bran, who’s the new Three-Eyed Raven used his powers to find out a lot of important information, which included the truth of Jon Snow’s parentage. In season 7, they will naturally head towards the Wall and if you look carefully at the above image, Bran Stark and Meera Reed are looking up. We are sure that they are looking at the Wall, as Meera drags Bran towards it.
5. Brienne is back at Winterfell and love is in the air
In last season Brienne and Podrick visited Riverrun to try to make sure that Brynden Tully joined Sansa and Jon in the fight against the Boltons, but she failed in the task and had to flee before the Lannisters and the Freys captured the castle. The above photo confirms that she has managed to reach Winterfell (its Game of Thrones and you can’t be sure about what might happen to a character) and Tormund Giantsbane is still smitten by her and it seems that he won’t give up till he manages to woo Brienne.
6. Littlefinger is still scheming
In the season 6 finale, we saw how Littlefinger was trying to bring Sansa over to his side by creating a rift in her mind and he kind of succeeded in it. In season 7 he will continue doing what he is good at and it does seem that he has somehow managed to get Sansa on her side. Sansa and Littlefinger are looking down at the courtyard and Sansa doesn’t seem to be happy. It might be possible that Sansa might turn against her siblings.
7. The Hound has reached the North
In the last season, the Brotherhood Without Banners tried to recruit the Hound into their ranks and mentioned that they wanted his help to fight the “cold winds rising in the North.” Looks like the Hound has agreed and they have reached the North. It is also possible that Winter has reached the Riverlands but that seems a bit unlikely.
8. Jon Snow is in the crypts
This is another important picture that was released. In the picture its clear that Jon Snow is in the crypts in Winterfell and that means a lot. It’s highly possible that he is standing in front of Lyanna Stark’s tomb and it’s also possible that he might learn something about his parentage over here.We have explained the possibilities in detail in this article, so do check it out.
9. Arya has an interesting encounter
Arya Stark seems to be at some Inn in this picture. It will be wonderful if this is the same Inn where Hot Pie works. However, the interesting part of this picture is Arya Stark’s expressions and also look carefully at the people behind her. It appears that someone is entering the room and Arya doesn’t seem happy. It will be very interesting if Arya happens to meet Melisandre in this scene. We know that Jon Snow has banished Melisandre and she’s traveling South and if you remember, Melisandre had once told Arya that they would meet again. It might be possible that this is the scene where they meet once again.
10. Daenerys has arrived at Dragonstone
In the season 6 finale, Daenerys Targaryen had sailed for Westeros with her military and these pictures confirm that she has landed in Westeros and to be specific, she has landed at Dragonstone, which was the original seat of House Targaryen in Westeros. So it’s apt that she will set up her base over there. You can also see a part of her throne on Dragonstone.
11. Missandei and Grey Worm exchange important jewelry
This is one interesting thing that we missed out but an Eagle-eyed fan with the reddit username EveryFckngChicken pointed out that there’s a Dragon brooch that both Grey Worm and Missandei are wearing in different pictures. However, the fan didn’t realize that the Dragon brooch has been inspired by the Ouroboros. For those who don’t know, an Ouroboros is a Dragon or serpent which is eating it’s own tail and it represents an infinite cycle of “creation and destruction” or “life and death”. So it would be interesting to know what this means in the show. It might also represent the death of Dragons from the world and how Daenerys Targaryen brought them back to life.
Looking at the pictures, it appears that it might be similar to the Hand of the King pin, which only one person can wear, as in one picture only Grey Worm is wearing it, while in the other, Missandei is wearing it. So we don’t know which of these scenes happen first in the series.
12. Winter seems to have arrived at Dragonstone
Lord Varys wearing his usual robes Lord Varys in warmer clothes
Finally, we come to the last point, where we are sure that Winter has reached Dragonstone. If you look at the two pictures of Varys, you will see that in one of them, he’s wearing his normal robes but in the second picture, he’s wearing warmer clothes. Some people might say that it’s possible that he has travelled North and hence the change in clothes, but if you look carefully, the background makes it clear that it’s Dragonstone. Compare the picture of Varys with that of Daenerys and you will realize that they are standing in the same room.
