Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is one of the most anticipated shows of 2022. HBO has been dropping bombs to raise up the hype meter every now and then, and it seems to be working quite effectively so far. HBO’s Leavesden Studios where House of The Dragon is currently being filmed was visited by Entertainment Weekly recently, and clicked a bunch of pictures of the set as well as talked to a few cast members. One of the pictures that has come to light recently shows an old king preceding King Viserys I Targaryen, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.

The picture above shows King Jaehaerys along with his Great Council of Harrenhal. The character is portrayed by Michael Carter in the upcoming prequel series, and seems to be in the later years of his reign. Jaehaerys I Targaryen, was dubbed as the Conciliator, the Wise, and later in life as the Old King. He was the grandfather of Viserys I Targaryen and was the fourth Targaryen king to sit the Iron Throne.

Jaehaerys was the third son and fourth child of King Aenys Targaryen and his wife, Lady Alyssa Velaryon. He had to spend his early years in exile and captivity under his uncle Maegor’s rule, whom he succeeded in 48 AC following his death. He went on to become the longest ruling Targaryen monarch in Westerosi history.

Jaehaerys was a dragonrider and rode the dragon Vermithor, the third largest dragon after Balerion and Vhagar. Towards the end of his life, he used to confuse Alicent Hightower for one of his daughters. It would be interesting to see how that plays out in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel.
