Game of Thrones is a sneaky show, and having to juggle such a complex web of storylines justifies it. The sneaky bits of truth have been hitting us one by one, with Jon Snow‘s parentage, and Hodor‘s origins, and lately HBO has been signalling at yet another : the dagger we keep seeing. Turns out, it might serve a bigger purpose than we thought it would. Read on!
So, going back, the Valyrian steel dagger has been around since Season 1, when it was first seen being used by a cut-throat to try and murder a defenceless Bran Stark. Catelyn Stark manages to get her hands on it then, and takes it to Ned Stark, at King’s Landing, where Littlefinger claims that the blade is his, but that he had lost it to Tyrion Lannister in a bet, framing him for attempting to kill Bran. The dagger has since then been with Littlefinger. However, in the EW photoshoot of the Stark kids, we saw Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) wielding it, which led to a bunch of speculations.
The dagger is often called Catspaw, and was further teased by HBO Nordic. It popped up again when Samwell Tarly was shown reading a book from the restricted section of the library, and a drawing of the dagger was on the page. John Bradley (Samwell) even revealed that the detail was meant to be noticed. The latest instance of it showing up, was in the Season 7 episode 4 teaser, where a hand is shown to draw it, and it looks like Littlefinger’s hand. Check out a screenshot of it, below :
Now we know that Arya is supposed to show up at Winterfell in this episode, and considering the dagger ends up with her, and Littlefinger has it now, we can only hope that Arya takes it from him, and not to be too hopeful, kills him in the process.
Not to forget, Valyrian steel can kill White Walkers, so looks like Arya has her share, now. What do you think will happen with the dagger? Tell us in the comments, down below!
