Taylor Swift reveals Game of Thrones influenced her album “Reputation”
If Taylor Swift’s “Wonderland” sounds like an inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, there is also something else that has literary and pop culture connotations. Three years back, in 2016, Swift started watching Game of Thrones. And like most of us, gradually the series took her over. Like all our influences reflect on us in mysterious ways, Game of Thrones and its dark world wormed its way into Swift’s music.
Like the essence of Game of Thrones, “reputation” explores the vengeance through its weaponized songs. It also simultaneously tries to look through the sacredness of life. While speaking with EW she revealed, “‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is literally Arya Stark’s kill list. ‘King of My Heart’ was influenced by Khal Drogo and Daenerys. It’s even got this post-hook of drums — I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums. ‘I Did Something Bad’ I wrote after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger,”. Further she notes, “Look What You Made Me Do are very Cersei vibes, too. Daenerys as well.”
Did she tell anyone about this influence? She tells us she met David Benioff and D. B. Weiss at a party. “I was sitting there going, ‘Do I tell them? Is that weird? No one asked for this information.’ [But] one of the first things they said was ‘Our daughters love your music.’ I’m like, ‘This is my in.’”
She says GoT influenced her in shaping her outlook on storytelling. Swift strives to attain more and more ability to foreshadow stories, to meticulously craft cryptic storylines. Her admiration of the series also comes from the character building. According to her, the way sentiments change for each character when you think about the reasons of their actions and the consequences they suffer, makes the series more intriguing.
Real-life is often different from reel life. The celebrities we idolize often face regular problems like normal people. We might want a life like theirs, but ignore the struggles they had to face. For example, Game of Thrones macho man Jason Momoa. Though he appears fearsome as Khal Drogo and majestic as Aquaman on-screen, he’s completely different in real life. The 41-year-old actor recently opened up about his life off-screen in an interview with Men’s Health magazine.
The Game of Thrones star revealed, “I may look big and tough, but I’m not. I’m nothing like Khal Drogo. I’m not even the king of my own house! I’m absolutely terrified of my wife.”
Momoa loves his family. He said, “We’ve all gotten so much closer. My wife is very sophisticated and smart and our kids and I are kind of like animals that need to be trained a little better. I’m constantly a work in progress, and I’ve just been trying to get better as a father and a husband.”
Jason has been through a lot, without letting anyone know about his troubles. He recently revealed in an interview how his family was facing financial troubles after Game of Thrones. It is tough to imagine someone as popular as he went broke. Things got better for him after the Justice League.

Game of Thrones achieved great success and popularity in the past decade. The show set the bar for television series in terms of its story, scenery, CGI and battle scenes. However, it was also famous for another reason, a collection of well-built, tight and ripped bodies on-set. They caused awe amongst the audience, even encouraging them to get their own set of 6-pack-abs. Game of Thrones’ handsome hunk Jason Momoa, shared his secrets to a fit body with Men’s Health magazine.
The 41-year-old actor revealed his workout regime in an interview with the renowned magazine. However, he was terrified of doing Yoga. He said, “So I tried yoga the other day, and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’d rather squat a car. Climbing El Capitan would be easier than doing two hours of yoga. I can’t bend over anymore! My hamstrings are so tight. It’s pathetic.”
Momoa added, “I was in a yoga class with these older ladies in Topanga and everyone was just holding their arms up and I was like, ‘This is so hard!’”.
He also talked about his love for outdoor activities, “I rock climb a lot. Maybe I’m an ape. I love the way it feels. I like being upside down. I always loved climbing trees as a kid and swinging in the breeze.”
Momoa had revealed how his family was facing financial troubles in an interview earlier. What do you think of Momoa’s regime? Tell us in the comments below!
It is always fun to see our favourite actors play out radically different roles. Iain Glenn, who played the honourable and heroic Ser Jorah Mormont, was seen playing a not-so-heroic role in The Racer.
Directed by Kieron J Walsh, the movie circles around a series of scandals that took place at the 1998 Tour de France. The film was the opening film for the Cork International Film Festival. Though fictional, The Racer shows the dangerous lengths teams will go to for a competitive edge. Iain Glen plays the team’s Mr Fixit with the syringes and vials.
Iain Glenn talked to the Irish Examiner about the movie, “I studied documentaries and a couple of films just to get to know the world it occupied. What drew me to the script was it didn’t hold back its punches. I thought it was a very frank and honest, quite a wry, insightful look at a particularly bad period for drug abuse within the sport.”
He continued, “That tour became known as the Tour de Drugs because of the amount of drugs that were going down at the time. The people within the team and my character, certainly within the context of the film, didn’t have any great qualms about it – everyone was doing it and we were doing it as well. That was the norm. It’s ironic to think that (Lance) Armstrong was about to enjoy his great stretch as being the world-leading cyclist and he won so many tours in a row and this was prior to that. During Armstrong’s time, everyone thought the sport had got its act together a bit more.”
Earlier, Kit Harington was seen playing a shady role in Criminals Season 2. What do you think about the movie? Tell us in the comments below!
