Who is Ser Alfred Broome?
Ser Alfred Broome first appears as a member of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Black Council on Dragonstone. He suggests that Rhaenyra may have ordered the murder of Prince Jaehaerys in a moment of madness. In Episode 5, Rhaenyra, having lost Rhaenys, tries to assert her authority among her council members. During this time, Broome is planning war strategies and attempts to sideline Rhaenyra by stating that women, being the gentler sex, know nothing about battle and war.
Rhaenyra reminds him that since there was peace during their time, Broome has seen no more war than she has. Despite this, Rhaenyra gains no more control over the council. At the episode’s end, Ser Alfred is tasked with meeting Daemon at Harrenhal to remind him of his allegiance to the Blacks.

Ser Alfred Broome in Fire and Blood
In Fire and Blood, Ser Alfred joined the Dragonstone garrison during Jaehaerys I’s reign. By the time civil war broke out between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen, Alfred was the most senior knight of Dragonstone. When Rhaenyra led the Blacks to capture King’s Landing, she appointed Ser Robert Quince as Castellan of Dragonstone rather than the sullen Alfred. Though the Blacks took the capital city, Ser Alfred was enraged at being overlooked.
Aegon and Sunfyre went into hiding on Dragonstone. The Greens found potential allies among the castle’s garrison. They promised Ser Alfred lordship, lands, and wealth for his loyalty. Ser Alfred then participated in the coup of Dragonstone, personally slaying the castellan with a spear. Ser Marston Waters had to prevent Alfred from executing Baela Targaryen.
Rhaenyra eventually lost control of King’s Landing, fleeing to Dragonstone. When they arrived, Rhaenyra was shocked to see her castellan dead and Dragonstone in Aegon’s control. Ser Alfred had his men slay Rhaenyra’s remaining Queensguard. Aegon’s dragon Sunfyre bathed Rhaenyra with flame, killing her. Ser Alfred advised Aegon II to kill Rhaenyra’s son, Aegon III Targaryen, but the king decided to keep the boy hostage.
Ser Alfred accompanied Aegon II when the king returned to King’s Landing. Eventually, the Blacks who continued fighting in the name of Rhaenyra’s son, defeated the Green forces. In a moment of desperation, Aegon sent Ser Alfred to maim Rhaenyra’s son, who was held hostage. However, when Alfred crossed the drawbridge to Maegor’s Holdfast, he found seven of his gutter knights blocking the way, who had joined the conspiracy to depose Aegon. They told him there was a new king, put a hand on his shoulder, and shoved him off the drawbridge onto the iron spikes below. Alfred agonized for two days before dying.
