HBO has long discussed the notion of delving deeper into the Martinverse, even prior to the conclusion of the original series, so the concept of Game of Thrones spinoff episodes is not new. Showrunner Ryan Condal had another series in mind that he intended to adapt before the first spinoff, House of The Dragon, was even created. With or without Condal, the adaptation is at last headed toward a full-fledged TV series.

Ryan Condal wished to adapt “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”

The Hedge Knight, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is the second Game of Thrones spinoff that HBO has announced. Prior to beginning work on House of the Dragon, Condal intended to develop a spinoff based on the books Dunk & Egg, which are the source of inspiration for the project. He once told IndieWire:

“I thought it would fly because it was a great counterpoint to ‘Game of Thrones. It was just like ‘The Mandalorian’ to the big ‘Star Wars’ saga films. This was a completely different flavor. HBO wanted something big and muscular in the fight for the throne. They wanted something more like ‘House of the Dragon.’”
