Game of Thrones merchandise is very rare to get your hands on, a prop from the TV show is even rarer. The cast members were themselves denied access to many of the iconic set treasures that were close to them. However, fans of both Game of Thrones and Vikings TV series have a chance to own valuable assets from their favourite franchises. Ireland’s auctioneer to Hollywood, Sean Eacrett in Laois, will be bringing the gavel down on his latest celluloid props collection, from Vikings and Game Of Thrones on Monday, July 26th.

The auction will feature thrones and costumes from the sixth season Amazon Prime and History Channel Norse series, and notably two other items of particular interest; giant candelabras from Game Of Thrones.

Sean is now synonymous with the auction of Irish film sets and props since it all started in 2016. These auctions also benefit the Irish film industry. The July 26th auction features props primarily from the six Vikings series filmed in County Wicklow, and two items of interest from Game Of Thrones.

The Red Wedding remains one of the most horrifying and gruesome episodes in Game of Thrones history. The inspiration for the loathsome butchering of Rob Stark, his wife and his mother along with his forces is actually based on real-life history. The Black Dinner refers to an event in late medieval Scotland, in which the principal heads of the Douglas Clan were invited to dine with King James II, which ultimately led to them being falsely executed.

King James II (AD 1430 – 1460) of the line of Stewarts was the son of King James I and Joan Beaufort. He succeeded his father at the age of 6 after James I was assassinated in AD 1437 in a sewer tunnel, whilst trying to flee from Sir Robert Graham of Kinpont and a group of conspirators.

Regency over the boy king was given to Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Douglas, who headed the Scottish government as lieutenant-general of the realm during the minority of James until AD 1439.

After Archibald’s death, power was shared amongst William Crichton, 1st Lord Crichton and Lord Chancellor of Scotland, Sir Alexander Livingston of Callendar, and James Douglas, Earl of Avondale.

The Douglas clan were the most prominent family in lowland Scotland during the Late Middle Ages and were considered a threat to rival families, and even the throne through their influence over the crown.

In AD 1440, Crichton, Livingston, and James Douglas conspired to break the power of the late Archibald Douglas’s family and invited the 16-year-old William Douglas, 6th Earl of Douglas, and his younger brother to dine with the boy king at Edinburgh Castle.

According to legend, whilst they ate, a black bulls head was placed before William and his entourage which symbolised death. The two brothers were then dragged out to Castle Hill and given a mock trial with trumped-up charges, claiming they had protested against the king and were named as traitors to the crown and beheaded. In another account, the king pleaded for their lives, but the pleas were ignored, and they were beheaded in the castle yard.

The Black Dinner (and the Massacre of Glencoe in AD 1692) would later serve as the inspiration for ‘The Red Wedding’ in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.

While announcing the news a few days ago, Amber wrote: “I’m so excited to share this news with you,” she began her note, sharing a photo of her and her baby daughter. “Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms. Now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way.”

She continued. “I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib,” she went on to say. “A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this. My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”
