Nikolaj Coster-Waldau comments on one of the biggest Game of Thrones fan theories
Game of Thrones has one of the biggest fandoms in existence, and it is at a critical point right now. Fans are eagerly awaiting Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere, the next book, The Winds of Winter hasn’t been given a release date, although it has been said that it might come out this year. Basically, all that the fans are left with now, are some news reports about the filming, cast interviews, and their own fan theories. We have had a lot of those over the years, and now, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones, has commented on one of the biggest ones around.
As you might have already guessed, the theory involves Nikolaj’s character. To freshen you up a bit, at the end of Season 6, Cersei Lannister blew up a lot of people, using Wildfire, and then her son jumped to his death, giving a whole new meaning to ‘King’s Landing’, all of which, in the end, got her a very cold look from her brother/lover, Jaime. The theory says that Jaime will ultimately be the one that kills Cersei, and that look had tipped the scales in favor of this theory.
Let’s not forget why Jaime is called the Kingslayer : He killed the last ruler who tried to burn people alive with Wildfire. There is sufficient evidence to support the theory, including a bit from the books, which has a prophecy about Cersei. It reads : “The valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” The word “Valonqar” means “little brother”, in High Valyrian.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau weighed in on his opinion about this theory, in an interview with The Huffington Post. He said :
“It’s a theory … but it has a beautiful, romantic, tragic thing [to it].
It’s probably too obvious.”
Yep. Nikolaj thinks our well researched theory might be a little too obvious to be true, but after the whole R+L = J thing, we won’t dismiss the idea already.
He went on to say that he had no idea how it would ultimately turn out, too. If he’s saying that purely to avoid leaking spoilers, that could mean that Cersei survives Season 7. Who knows? It could swing the other way, and the word “valonqar” might get a bit too literal, and Tyrion could end up killing her.
All we can do for now, is wait. How do you think Cersei is going to die? Talk to us in the comments, below!
