MCU’s Secret Invasion needs to be good for Emilia Clarke’s sake
Emilia Clarke is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. Just like Game of Throne’s other cast members Kit Harington and Richard Madden who have already joined the MCU, she will also be joining the franchise with Marvel Studio’s upcoming Secret Invasion after a long time, as she hasn’t played any other major roles after the Game of Thrones finale in 2019. So, let us look at why MCU’s Secret Invasion needs to be good for Emilia Clarke’s sake.
Warning: Before moving forward, it is important to know that there is a fair share of spoilers for the upcoming Marvel series, so proceed with caution.
What role is Emilia Clarke playing in the Secret Invasion?
Let us first take a look at the character Emilia Clarke would be playing. It was very recently revealed that Emilia Clarke will play a radicalized Skrull in the upcoming Disney Plus show. In an interview, Samuel L. Jackson who plays Nick Fury in the show told that Emilia Clarke would be playing G’iah, a Skrull who is Talos’ daughter.
For those who aren’t familiar with the character, G’iah is a Skrull who is considered a radical and is said to have a strong stance regarding the lack of change and progress in terms of the humans assisting their kind after losing their homes. Before this, she was also a part of the Secret Invasion comics and played a major role there as well.
The character has already been seen in Captain Marvel, specifically at the end of the film. She made an appearance in a reunion scene set on a space station. “Remember when Ben was there with his wife and daughter? She’s the little Skrull girl grown up. She’s his daughter.” Jackson said in an interview (referring to the scene of Captain Marvel).
Talking about her role, Emilia Clarke said in an interview, “It’s hardened her, for sure. There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl,” Furthermore she also described her character saying, “She’s a refugee kid who’s had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean? Maybe the fact that we didn’t know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.”
Why is Secret Invasion important for Emilia Clarke?
Secret Invasion is very important for Emilia Clarke as this is her first major role after Game of Thrones. While it was announced over 2 years ago that Emilia Clarke would be joining the MCU, her role was never talked about before. Now that we know the character she’d be playing in the series, fans are very excited to see her playing the role of G’iah in the series as it is much more different from that of the Game of Thrones role she has done for almost a decade, it’ll be quite interesting to see how she takes on such a role.
She even talked about her role and her future in the MCU in an interview where she said, “Everyone I know and everyone I’ve spoken to who is a part of the Marvel universe — and actors talk! Everyone has only the highest praise to offer, there’s a reason why actors stay in it. They’re so loved because they’re having loads of fun. So I’m down for that. Sure!”
