“Who wants to be a Stark?”: Matt Smith says Targaryens are the best
Matt Smith‘s tremendous acting skill is demonstrated by the fact that he is a member of three of the most recognizable franchises in the world. He has experienced the best and the worst of it all, whether it was an unhinged Prince Daemon Targaryen in the Game of Thrones precursor House of The Dragon, a Marvel villain in Morbius, or a former enigmatic Doctor Who. And he has completely adapted to his Daemon persona, as seen in his recent LA Comic Con visit, at around the same time the House of the Dragon Season 2 teaser was unleashed.
Who does Matt Smith play in House of the Dragon?
Matt Smith plays Daemon Targaryen, King Viserys’ younger brother, in House of the Dragon. Despite initial criticisms, he has since then defied all odds to become a fan favorite, despite his character’s heinous deeds. House of the Dragon Season 2 is set for a Summer 2024 release, and fans are awaiting to witness their favorite Targaryens in action, including Daemon.
Smith recently interacted with fans at the LA Comic Con on December 3, 2023, and channeled his inner Daemon in true fashion. When a fan asked if he wasn’t a Targaryen, what other House would he like to be a part of, to which he answered, “What kind of question is that? Who wants to be a Stark? We’ve got dragons and blonde hair, we’re the best! Targaryen all the way baby.”
“It’s the same with The Greens and The Blacks. No, no, no, there’s only one side to be on and it’s ours!”
Matt Smith learns Valyrian like “it is a song”
Smith has never been a fan of learning High Valyrian, as he has said before. However, relating to other languages he knows about certainly did help. He said at the panel, “Yeah, it is quite a complex language. It’s sort of a mixture of like Portuguese in it, it’s like Latin and Arabic and it’s quite strange. I’ve always loved those big scenes that are in the highest of the Valyrian though, so I just learn it like it’s a song, basically.”
