Maisie Williams discusses the relationship between the Stark sisters
The growing tension between the Stark sisters in the last season of Game of Thrones had made many fans believe that either of them will die. It wasn’t until the last episode – ‘the Dragon and the Wolf’, where we saw the trial of Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish by Sansa Stark for his treasons against her family.

The last scene which had the duo discuss their pasts and reminiscing their father – Eddard Stark’s words, clarified that they had settled their differences and gave us a wishful thinking of the pack surviving in the final season. In a recent interview with the Elle Magazine, Maisie Williams – the actress who plays Arya Stark talked about the relationship her character shares with her sister. She said:
“I think until last season Arya was always killing the baddies. But then we saw her start to use those manipulative powers…It’s not until she had that whole dialogue with her sister Sansa in the last season that you realize what she’s become, that she’s being awful to someone who we love.”
Game of Thrones is a TV series which has many themes and characters but also shown women empowerment through various strong leaders like Brienne, Cersei, Margaery, Daenerys, Lyanna Mormont, and many more. Maisie went on to speak:
“For me, [Game of Thrones] is a medieval world in which women don’t have a lot of rights, and yet they still prevail. But I do think that as the seasons have gone on it’s become more and more amazing for women. And this final season is going to be incredible. But I do think that as the seasons have gone on it’s become more and more amazing for women. And this final season is going to be incredible.”
“It just feels great, being on set with all these girls. They’re all ruling, you know, they’re all back on top – it’s pretty impressive”
Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie have been best buddies since the very first season of Game of Thrones. They not share a strong bond as the Stark sister but, also as sole sisters in their real life. Talking about her character and praising Sophie, she said:
“For me, it was a really great moment as an actor to be able to play the character you love as a baddie. It felt so amazing, even though it’s an awful scene… Who gets to be on set with their best friend? Me! We lift each other up.”
She lastly talked about her role in the final season of Game of Thrones coming to an end. She ended by saying:
“Season one to eight, that’s what I wanted. I was in the first episode and I want to be in the last.”
