Let’s talk about that emotional reunion in Game of Thrones season 7 episode 2

Warning alert! This post contains spoilers. The second episode of Game of Thrones season 7 had some amazing moments and it included 2 reunions, both featuring Arya Stark.
In the last episode we found out that Arya Stark was heading to King’s Landing to kill Cersei and continued her journey to King’s Landing in the latest episode, but had a stopover at the Inn at the Crossroads, where she met Hot Pie and it felt wonderful to see them together. We last saw Arya and Hot Pie together way back in season 3, when Hot Pie decided to start working at the Inn as he loved baking and was tired of the traveling and fighting.
Now, Arya is back again at the Inn, Hot Pie notices that Arya isn’t the same anymore and we can see the difference in her. Over the years Arya has changed a lot and now she has become an assassin, who only wants to take revenge.
The scene also had a cheeky reference to season 6 finale, when Arya killed Walder Frey’s sons and baked a pie with their body parts in it. However, that’s not the only reference to the previous seasons as Hot Pie talks about the lady knight while referring to Brienne of Tarth. Hot Pie had met Brienne and Podrick in season 4 and when he found out that they were looking for the Stark sisters, he gave them information about where Arya might’ve possibly gone with the Hound.
Throughout the scene Arya is emotionless but when Hot Pie tells her that the Starks have retaken Winterfell and Jon Snow is now the King in the North, we can see a flurry of emotions on her face and she immediately changes her plans and starts heading North and that’s when we get to see the 2nd and the main reunion.
Like all the Stark kids, Arya also had a Direwolf, named Nymeria but way back in the 2nd episode of season 1, Arya Stark had to say goodbye to her as Nymeria attacked Joffrey and the only way to keep her alive was to ensure that Nymeria ran away. Now, 6 seasons later, we finally get to see them together and Nymeria has grown a lot and she even has her own Wolf-pack. This was a really emotional moment for the fans as everyone has been waiting for this reunion since a long time.
Arya asks Nymeria to come with her to Winterfell but it seems that Nymeria has changed, just like Arya. Nymeria recognizes Arya but she is emotionless, just like how Arya was when she met Hot Pie. Nymeria then turns around and leaves and Arya says, “That’s not you.” It was very emotional to see both of them coming together and then immediately moving apart once again.
Showrunner D.B. Weiss talked about this scene in the “Inside the Episode” segment and tells us that Arya’s final words to Nymeria is a reference to what Arya had told Ned Stark in season 1. Ned Stark tells Arya that one day she will grow up to be a lady and Arya replies, “That’s not me.”
It’s important to keep in mind that the special effects required to create the huge Direwolves and Dragons cost a lot and as a result w
