Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) to play “a giant serpent” in the upcoming episode of DuckTales
Whenever you remember a film or TV show, there are some memorable moments or characters that you instantly recall. Game of Thrones has had plenty of such moments and characters. Still, some of them stand out from the rest. Tormund Giantsbane fascinated us beyond our expectations. The fierce wildling, played by Kristofer Hivju, became a symbol of free will, courage, and madness. Now, Nerdist reports that Hivju is ready for yet another role that fits this raw, charming, and beastly mold. But this time, Hivju has lent his voice to an animated cartoon. He will play Jormungandr, a beloved Viking wrestling champion in the upcoming episode of DisneyXD’s DuckTales, “The Rumble for Ragnarok!”.
DuckTales is an American animated TV series running in its third season currently. It is a reboot of the original animated series of the late ‘80s. The sneak peek into the episode shows us that Jormungandr is a giant serpent, who may look like a lizard. He is in a wrestling ring surrounded by the cheers of the fallen warriors of Valhalla. The battle will now be fought for the fate of the Earth, where the fighters from Team Earth will face off against Team Valhalla. Leading Ragnarok (an apocalyptic war) is “the baby face People’s Champ”, Jormungandr. And his foe is none other than “the Gilded Greed Monger, the Hated Hoarder, and the Infamous Millionaire Miser”, Scrooge McDuck; who plays the role of a villainous heel.
We are quite certain that all fans of DuckTales would remember the cruel, rich old man – Scrooge McDuck; whose heart skips multiple beats at the thought of spending money but who manages to retain his humanity in times of crisis. Here, he seems ready to fight in his wrestling outfit while his grandnephews and Launchpad (his pilot) watch on. Before entering into the ring, Scrooge, being true to his nature, collects “back taxes” from the people on the ringside. Later in the episode, Dewey (one of the grandnephews) will have to accept his inner heel and defeat Jormungandr in a battle royale to save the Earth.
It’s a refreshing change of pace to see Kristofer playing such a fun and powerful role in animation. All the more so, because his voice and dialogues aptly complement Jormungandr’s personality. The experience with Tormund must have helped here, as just like the wildling, Jormungandr too is a roaring delight. Hivju’s other forthcoming role is in the second season of The Witcher, where he plays Nivellen; a brief yet pivotal character. The COVID-19 situation had stopped the filming and production of The Witcher 2. We’re not sure when the work will resume and whether it will stick to its release in 2021 or not.
Kristofer Hivju had tested positive for coronavirus. But after several weeks of self- isolation with his family, he told us that he had recovered completely. Another Game of Thrones actor who tested positive for COVID-19 was Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand). Sadly, we are unaware of her current situation. We wish her good health and a speedy recovery.
The Rumble for Ragnarok! is the seventh episode of DuckTales’ third season. It premieres on May 9, 2020, at 9:30 am ET/PT (Eastern Time/Pacific Time) on channels, DisneyXD, and DisneyNOW.
