House of The Dragon

The final episode of Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon had everything that makes the franchise so special, amazing sceneries, beautiful sets, detailing in costumes, heartrending performances, and of course, the dragons. The tenth episode not only introduced us to the Black Council, but also to a new dragon, and not just any dragon. We see a brief glimpse of the Bronze Fury, Vermithor, the third largest dragon in Westeros to ever exist, after Balerion and Vhagar themselves. However, the most heartbreaking scene in the episode is Vhagar killing Luke and Arrax, and the cast and the crew recently shed some light on it.

House of the Dragon | S1 EP10: Inside the Episode (HBO)

Miguel Sapochnik: Episodes 9 and 10 I’ve always considered as sister episodes. Episode 9 is primarily Alicent’s story and 10 is Rhaenyra’s story.

Ryan Condal: When Luke shows up, he is surprised to see that Vhagar is parked outside. But he’s been sent in peace, and he’s trusting in the “respect guest” rights, and all that goes to hell in the world of Game of Thrones. It’s really a bullying sequence, it’s a chase sequence, a torture sequence, where Luke is trying to escape. No real hope of Arrax fighting Vhagar and anything good happening at the end of that.

Condal: I think what you are seeing in that moment there is the last vestiges of the little boy that’s left in Aemond. Maybe he was trying to scare Luke, but I don’t think he intended to kill him. But now he’s done it and he has to decide whether or not he is going to own it. Because obviously, if the usurping of the throne wasn’t the start of the war, certainly killing one of the Queen’s sons is.
