HBO's programming president reveals why Game of Thrones season 8 might not come out in 2018
It’s been common knowledge for a while now that Game of Thrones season 8 won’t be releasing anytime soon, more specifically, it might come out in 2019. While fans are definitely disappointed because of the long wait given how mind-blowing the season 7 finale was, we’ve got to consider the reasons behind our favourite show taking a long time to reappear in our lives. HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys talked about why the final season of Game of Thrones might take longer than usual to come out, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take,” Bloys said. “The shooting is complicated enough — on different continents, with all the technical aspects — and the special effects are a whole other production period that we’re trying to figure out. That is a big factor in all of this.”
Season 8 is scheduled to begin filming this October and will go on until August 2018 according to speculation. Although only six episodes will be filmed for the final season, there are speculations that each episode will be as big as a feature-length film. Plus given the special effects, filming and post-production, it does seem acceptable that the show will take longer than usual to release it’s final and most anticipated season. Even other popular HBO shows likeWestworldrequire more time and attention which delays their release.
“As shows get bigger and more complicated, I have to follow the producers’ lead and let go of, ‘It’d be nice to have it every year,’”Bloys added.“They have to do the best show they can do. With bigger shows like Westworld or Game of Thrones, sometimes if you want the big show and the big scope, it takes longer.”
