Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner reveals what is she looking for in her newer projects

Parenthood is one of the most pleasing but also painstaking experience in one’s life. Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark on the show, became a mother last year in July. Motherhood can change your life. After taking a brief break from acting, both due to her pregnancy and the pandemic, she’s ready to get back to work. She has already begun advertising for Luis Vuitton’s new timepiece campaign. Talking to Vogue, she talked about her criteria to select her newest projects.

Sophie said, “A project really has to warrant me being away from my family, so I’m more judgmental about projects than ever. I really only put myself out there for the ones that I truly truly believe in and love. I’m looking into a lot of comedies because I haven’t tried that yet.”

The star also hopes to get back to her native U.K. at some point this summer. “Some of my family haven’t even met my daughter,” she says. “I have to go back!”

Turner also talked about her husband Joe’s fashion habits, “He surprisingly puts in a little bit more effort than me. He’s always embraced high fashion and dressing up. I thought it was psychotic how he would wear jeans during the pandemic, while we were just sitting at home. I was like, What kind of serial killer does that?”

The couple often swap pieces though—and sometimes they even buy the same things. “The hardest thing in my life is organizing the washing, because I have no idea whose is whose,” says Turner. “We buy and wear the exact same things. We’re always swapping clothes, especially vintage tees.”

Game of Thrones was a beautiful journey for both the fans and the cast alike. Even though the first attempt was a complete failure, the pilot was reshot and the show steadily took off. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys on the show, was fresh out of Drama school aged 23 when she joined. She talked about her warm feelings for the show in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Clarke said, “I honestly still look back at it and go, ‘I’m so not at a point where I can retrospectively see this for what it is.’ I think I’ll be 90 when I can actually do that. The experience was so enormous, and so all-consuming, and defines me at that young moment in my life. You kind of look back at it like you would high school or college. When you’re young like that, you’re so in the moment.”

She continued, “I look back at the person who was there and go, ‘You really have no idea what’s coming. You have no idea what’s about to hit,’” the actress says. “And it was beautiful for that. We were all very much in the moment that we were in, and very unaware as to how it was going to be received, what people were going to think, who we were going to be at the end of it. I’m going to call us kids because we were — we were just having fun, experiencing this crazy thing. And it was joyous for that. That first season was nonstop joy and so much fun. I look back at it with complete love.”

HBO is celebrating a decade of Game of Thrones as The Iron Anniversary. The month-long celebrations are currently underway, and fans all over the world are reliving the fantastical series watching the Marathrone. HBO recently released a series of videos where various cast members looked back fondly at 10 years of the show. Recently, Emilia Clarke talked to Entertainment Weekly on the special occasion.

The 34-year-old actress famous for playing Daenerys Targaryen on the show reminisced the first season with much love. She compared the cast members with kids, where everyone had fun on the set.

On being asked about HBO’s plans of expanding the Game of Thrones universe, she said with a laugh, “Godspeed, everyone! You do you, you go, Glenn Coco! It’s just inevitable. I wish you all the best, it’s gonna be whatever it will be, but of course, they’re doing more. You can’t create something that big and not have people go, ‘And? What else? This is really good! Let’s do loads more!’”

She also extended her good wishes to Miguel Sapochnik, the director of iconic Game of Thrones episodes like ‘Battle of the Bastards,’ ‘Hardhome,’ and ‘The Bells’. He is the co-showrunner of the Targaryen-centric prequel series House of the Dragon. “I love him completely, so I have no doubt that’s gonna be an enormous success because he’s just a genius,” Clarke said.

Game of Thrones wrapped up filming nearly two years ago. The final season of the show met with a lot of controversies. Even though the show is dubbed the greatest TV show of the 21st century, many fans disliked the rushed ending. Some even petitioned to get it remade. HBO recently released a trailer for season 8 of the show, which doesn’t contain any previously unused footage but is new in the sense that it’s a re-edited version. However, actor Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton) was scared to watch the final season due to the backlash it received.

Roose Bolton died in season 6, but McElhatton continued to watch into season 7 because he was a fan of the show. He was reluctant to watch the final season as the bad reviews kept flowing in. He told the Express, “I always watched them a little bit later, I absolutely loved them, but I wasn’t kind of chomping at the bit to see (the final episodes). And then I guess – I will watch them one day, but it got such negative press, didn’t it? I mean, I just, I was really disappointed.”

He continued, “How can you be that big and that original and that new for eight seasons? Eventually, something’s got to give. And in a way, maybe it might have been better to finish at seven seasons. But I understand the pressure HBO probably put them under to say, ‘look, this thing is just a cash cow, it’s delivering and you’ve got to keep it going.’ Some series really do suffer from that, you know. They go on way too long and pass their story. But that’s where I guess art and commerce meet.”
