Game of Thrones prequel Bloodmoon pilot has wrapped filming, confirms HBO programming chief Casey Bloys

HBO didn’t waste any time after Game of Thrones. With multiple prequel ideas under development, they approved one and ordered a pilot episode. Titled Bloodmoon, the pilot had been filming in Northern Ireland and Italy, as we had been reporting. Now, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys has now confirmed that the pilot has wrapped filming. Read on!

During the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys discussed quite a few things. The most important one being that the pilot episode for the Game of Thrones prequel, Bloodmoon, had finished filming. It is now in the post-production stage. Fingers crossed now that it’s received well and HBO orders a full series.

The project is headed by Jane Goldman, with George R. R. Martin, and is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. It stars Naomi Watts, along with Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Toby Regbo, Marquis Rodriguez, John Simm, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan and Dixie Egerickx.

If all goes well, we might get to see the show in late 2020 or early 2021, as sources have previously said. Until then, keep hoping the pilot “flies off” well.
