That Game of Thrones is filmed majorly in Northern Ireland is not something that we don’t already know. And since the show uses a lot of locations in Northern Ireland, tourists and fans of Game of Thrones are always eager to visit those locations of filming. Many of the filming locations have attracted a number of tourists in the past five years, and since Northern Ireland has cashed in on a lot of tourism through Game of Thrones, there is potential for a lot more in the coming years as the popularity of the show grows.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that locations like the Dark Hedges near Armoy – but also Tollymore Forest Park, Castle Ward, Pollnagollum Cave in Fermanagh, Ballintoy Harbour and Downhill Beach and Mussenden Temple near Castlerock are all popular locations of filming that tourists are attracted. Ireland’s official tourism website launched a Game of Thrones tourism campaign last year, which has reached about 100 Million potential visitors to Ireland on various social networks, and around 5m clicks on the website.
Game of Thrones has already contributed about£110m to Northern Ireland’s economy, and based on how popular the show is now, with two more seasons to go, it is estimated that the tourism industry of Northern Ireland will do a lot more business than it does now. The tourism website manager Mr. Hamilton says that there are a lot of interesting attractions for the visitors including short films of the locations of Game of Thrones filming.
“Tourism Ireland is releasing a mixture of short films and images of the campaign elements on social media. Last year’s campaign generated about five million clicks, likes and shares and reached up to 100 million potential visitors,”he said.
