Ellie Kendrick talks about the crazy but exciting Meera-Jon twin theory
If you are true fans of the Game of Thrones franchise, you, like us, must have waited for six long years to finally have the theory about Jon Snow‘s parentage, become canon. However, if you are among the truest of the fans, you must also have been disappointed to see that Lyanna gave birth to only one kid in the Tower of Joy, and not to a set of twins.
The Meera Reed/Jon Snow twin theory has been around for quite a lot of time. If you haven’t heard of it, it might sound a bit too far-fetched to you, but it has sufficient evidence to make you think about it.
First of all, the books say that the only two survivors from the Tower of Joy were Ned Stark, and Howland Reed, who is, as you must have already guessed, Meera Reed’s father. Adding to the mystery is the fact that despite being friends with Ned, Howland never visited Winterfell since the events of Tower of Joy.
Secondly, the fact that Meera and Jon are of the same age, was verified by information from the books, according to The Huffington Post, not to forget that some of the cast members had hinted at a similar possibility.
The theory has been almost dead since the big reveal of Jon’s parentage at the end of Season 6, but we now might have a sliver of a hope. The Huffington Postmanaged to talk to Ellie Kendrick (Meera Reed) at the Game of Thrones behind the scenes fan event at New York, and she seems to think that the theory might still have some life left. She said :
“Game of Thrones always surprises us. I’m always surprised! I never have any idea of what’s going to happen next. I never rule anything out.
It seems quite conclusive in terms of Jon’s parentage. I don’t know. We’ve still never really seen where Jojen and Meera [Reed] have come from. We know a little tiny bit about her father. We don’t know anything about her mother, really. So yeah, I’m excited to find out who her parents are and what the situation is.”
Meera and Jon do seem to look like they could be siblings, however, only time will reveal the truth, unless spoilers do it first.
