Interview
Bella Ramsey initially thought she was ‘the wrong person’ for The Last of Us role

Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey won millions of hearts playing the young and brave Lyanna Mormont on the HBO fantasy epic, even though her role was short-lived. She accurately portrayed the proud and quirky young warrior as she stabbed a giant wight during her last battle at Winterfell. It seems her days of adventure are not over yet, she has landed yet another action-filled role in HBO’s upcoming video game adaptation The Last of Us, and she’s grateful for it.
Ramsey admits she initially thought she wasn’t the right person for the job. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she recalled being in quarantine for two weeks on the show’s set thinking to herself, “What am I doing here? You’ve chosen the wrong person’ — all of that goes around in your head.”
She was also aware of the fan reaction to her casting as Ellie. Ramsey said, “I’ve seen everything. I’m aware of all of it. It was my first experience, really, with a lot of negative reactions.”
Ramsey later went on to explain what inspired her to go forward with the role, “Ellie felt like a character I already had in me. Like the skins that you wear in a video game? She was one of my skins already.”
