“Give claiming a dragon a try”: Abubakar Salim on whether Alyn will try claiming his own dragon
Creating fate of his own?

There are complex dynamics between Addam, Alyn, and Corlys Velaryon in House of The Dragon season 2. Corlys Velaryon, the patriarch of House Velaryon, significantly influences the lives of his bastard sons, Addam and Alyn. The intriguing relationships within the Velaryon family create a rich backdrop for character development and conflict, especially as they navigate the treacherous waters of Westeros.
Alyn’s fear for his brother Addam
Alyn’s mind races as he processes the news heard from Corlys. He’s always been the cautious one, and the thought of Addam, his brother, riding a dragon is shaking him. He can’t help but think of all the worst-case scenarios as his brother is now at the crosshairs of the Greens. He’s trying to appear supportive, but his mind is a whirlwind of doubts. In an interview with Mashable, Abubakar Salim shared his perspectives saying,
“It’s frightening, because it’s such a change. It’s the opposite of what he was prepared for. He’s just heard of Princess Rhaenys’ dragon Meleys dying, so there’s the mentality that they are not gods, they’re mortals. And if the Greens can do that to Rhaenys, what are they going to do to Addam?”

Abubakar Salim’s view on Corlys giving suggestion to Alyn
Earlier, when Alyn was 15, he was likely more impulsive and eager to prove himself. Corlys’ suggestion would have been met with excitement and a sense of adventure. Alyn would have seen it as an opportunity to demonstrate his bravery and worth. However, now that Alyn is older and has witnessed the harsh realities of the world, his perspective has shifted. He’s seen the risks and consequences of being a dragon rider, and the thought of claiming a dragon and potentially facing similar dangers is terrifying to him.
“So when Corlys tells Alyn, “Maybe you should have a look and give claiming a dragon a try,” I think 15-year-old Alyn would have, whereas right now, Alyn couldn’t think of anything worse.”
