12 details you might have missed in Game of Thrones season 6 episode 10: The Winds of Winter

Game of Thrones season 6 is over and it ended with a big bang and everyone can’t stop talking about what happened during the finale. Be it Cersei’s use of wildfire to blowup the Sept of Baelor, Tommen committing suicide, Arya Stark killing Walder Frey, the revelation of Jon Snow’s mother, coronation of Cersei or Daenerys sailing to Westeros.  The episode was filled with some amazing moments and everyone will agree that it has to be one of the best seasons in the show. However, while watching the show the fans might have missed some small details from the show. That’s why we are back with the last Game of Details article for the season. Following are the things that you might have missed in Game of Thrones season 6 episode 10, The Winds of Winter.

1. Stark sigil in Winterfell

In the Battle of the Bastards, Jon Snow defeated Ramsay Bolton and took back Winterfell. Finally the Starks are back in Winterfell and for the first time since season 2 finale we have seen the Stark Direwolf on Winterfell during the opening credit scene. In the previous episodes, we could see the Bolton sigil on Winterfell as it was under the control of Roose Bolton and then Ramsay Bolton.

2. The prophecy and Tommen’s death

During season 5 premiere we saw a flashback in which the young Cersei met Maggy the Frog and she made a prophecy and with Tommen’s death, the prophecy is almost complete. She told Cersei, “Gold their crowns, and gold their shrouds.” If you look at Tommen’s clothes, you will realise that when he jumped from the window, he was wearing Golden coloured clothes.

3. Dean-Charles Chapman has died twice in the show

With the death of Tommen Baratheon, Dean-Charles Chapman has died twice on the show. Before he played the role of Tommen Baratheon, he also played the role of Martyn Lannister in season 3. Martyn Lannister was one of Robb Stark’s hostages but he was killed by Lord Karstark.

4. White Ravens at Old Town

When Samwell Tarly arrived at Oldtown, we didn’t just see the impressive city and it’s huge Citadel. If you look carefully at the top of the Citadel, you will notice thousands of White Ravens flying out. These are the Ravens that are sent to the various houses in Westeros to indicate the arrival of Winter and one of those White Raven reached Winterfell in the same episode. This also shows us that not all the events in the show are happening at the same time.

5. The Citadel Library

The White Ravens weren’t the only things that you might have missed in Oldtown. When Samwell was allowed to enter the library, he was left awestruck by what he saw inside. There was something inside the library that the fans have been seeing since season 1 premiere. We are talking about the astrolabe that we see during the opening credits.

6. Arya Stark’s mannerisms

During the episode, when Arya Stark was talking with Walder Frey, she called him my lord. This is a throwback to the scene when Arya was Tywin Lannister’s cupbearer in season 2. In the scene when Arya called Tywin my lord, he told her, “Lowborn girls say M’Lord, not My Lord. If you’re going to pose as a commoner, you better do it properly.”

It seems that Arya Stark hasn’t learned that till now.

7. The Rat Cook

Arya Stark feeding Walder Frey his sons was a reference to the story about the Rat Cook, which was told by Bran Stark in the Red Wedding episode. According to the story, a King had once visited the Nightfort, which was a prominent castle on the Wall but the cook was angered by the King and he killed the King’s son and fed his flesh to the King in a pie. The Gods cursed the cook and turned him into a rat and he was condemned to be in Nightfort and eat his own offspring. Here’s what Bran told us in season 3.

“It wasn’t for murder the gods cursed the Rat Cook, or for serving the King’s son in a pie… he killed a guest beneath his roof… that’s something the gods can’t forgive.“

8. The Heart Tree

Benjen Stark dropped Bran near a Heart Tree when they reached the Wall. This is the Heart tree that Bran touched before he saw the vision involving Ned and Lyanna Stark.

This is also the same Heart Tree where Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly took the Night’s Watch vows in season 1.

9. Azor Ahai reference

The showrunners might have given a subtle hint in the episode that Jon Snow might be Azor Ahai. The prophecy reads, “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”

If you look at the scene in which Ned Stark entered the Tower of Joy, he kept Arthur Dayne’s sword, Dawn near the bed. It’s interesting to note that Dawn is forged from the heart of a fallen star and on the pummel of the sword, we can see the Sun, which is also a star and there was blood on the sword as Ned had used it to kill Arthur Dayne and we can see Lyanna covered in lot of blood. So this might be the red star that the prophecy talks about.

10. The White Wolf

In the North, when the lords of the North declared Jon Snow as the King in the North, Lord Manderly called him the White Wolf. There’s a reason behind why he called Jon as the White Wolf. In Westeros, a bastard can’t take the banners of their father. They have to reverse the colours of the sigil on the banner. That’s why Jon Snow’s banner will have a White Direwolf as the banner of House Stark has a Grey Direwolf.

It’s just a coincidence that Jon Snow’s Direwolf is white or we can call it as a nice foreshadowing.

11. Qyburn is the Hand of the Queen

In the scene in which we saw Cersei’s coronation, there was a very small detail that was easy to miss. If you look carefully at Qyburn, you will see that he is wearing the badge of the Hand of the Queen.

12. How Varys reached Daenerys so quickly

The season ended when we saw Daenerys and her fleet sailing for Westeros. However many people were surprised to see Lord Varys with Daenerys in the scene and people were wondering if he used some teleportation device to travel so quickly to Meereen. However, it turns out that Lord Varys never went back to Meereen. He just joined Daenerys when she reached near Westeros. Don’t believe us, take a look at the Tyrell and Martell ships along with the Targaryen ships.
