Sophie Turner is exchanging her Game of Thrones attire for a criminal role in 1980s London. She portrays Joan, a single mother who resorts to diamond theft to support herself. Even though Turner feels that Game of Thrones was the highest point in her career, she is still thriving in the industry. The actress will be awarded Harper Bazaar’s Woman of the Year title this year.

Sophie Turner is Harper Bazaar’s Woman of the Year 2024

Every year, Harper’s Bazaar recognizes women in the film and music industry for their astonishing contributions to art and culture. This year, Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner has been chosen as the Woman of the Year for her performance in Joan. She was chosen for her ability to switch effortlessly between Joan Hannington’s numerous alter-egos, accents, and wigs, without losing sight of her humanity.

Sophie Turner felt Joan was far more challenging than her role in X-Men

Turner has transitioned into more adult roles ever since the end of her Game of Thrones days, similar to her character Sansa Stark. However, she felt that playing Joan was a bit more complicated than her role in a big franchise such as the X-Men. She told Harper’s Bazaar:

“I’d never led a TV show before, and I feel as if it’s far more challenging than a big movie like X-Men. There are so many people behind that, so many opinions. They make all the decisions, and you just kind of say, “Yes, OK, whatever needs to be done.” Whereas with Joan, I had so much say in it, and it was so collaborative… It feels like I’m releasing something that’s very near and dear to my heart.”
