Prince Jacaerys will be christened as ‘Targaryen’ in House of the Dragon Season 2
House of the Dragon appears to be following in the footsteps of Game of Thrones, with its gory, brutal, and detailed battle sequences. And some of the fight sequences will feature bloody clashes between adults and the now grown-up children. Season 2 will detail how a conflict between the older generation is passed down to the next, and the result is bloodier, magnifying with each battle. The show’s star Harry Collett (Jacaerys) teased what’s to come with a picture from the set on Instagram.
Harry Collett posts Jacaerys’ sword on Instagram
House of the Dragon Season 2 recently finished up production marked by a wrap-up party. Actor Harry Collett celebrated the occasion with his fans, sharing a picture from the set, which shows a sword, a mysterious large book, and a name tag, that says ‘Prince Jacaerys Targaryen’.
The significance of naming Jacaerys as ‘Targaryen’
The change in the name of Jacaerys from Velaryon to Targaryen can be traced back to Season 1 Episode 5, when King Viserys visited Driftmark and discussed the terms of Rhaenyra and Laenor’s marriage with Corlys and Rhaenys. They decided that Rhaenyra’s children would be born Velaryon, but upon succession, they would be changed to Targaryen. Since Rhaenyra has crowned herself Queen, her firstborn (Jacaerys) is the next in line, and will be adopting the Targaryen surname as well.
