The Last of Us Season 2 might replace a key element from the game

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay as Joel and Ellie in TLOU Season 1

HBO’s The Last of Us is its new record-breaking steamroller; surpassing television ratings and viewership records with every new episode. The critics and the viewers are highly impressed by the quality of sceneries, storylines, costumes, and zombie makeup, however, the series has also faced its fair share of criticism. Some of them include replacing several iconic elements from the game.

The Last of Us season 2 might not include Joel’s original song

The Last of Us showrunner Neil Druckmann told Kinda Funny (via The Last of Us News on Twitter) in a recent interview that the show might not have Joel’s original number, as it pushed the outbreak day back by ten years, and the song which he plays in the game, Pearl Jam’s “Future Days”, was released in 2013.

Druckmann said, “I could tell you we haven’t made a decision. We have talked about it for those exact reasons that you mentioned, that now it makes no sense for Joel to know that song. Now we could say, ‘Okay, it’s a parallel dimension and the song came out earlier.’ There’s ways, but that feels a little bit like a cheat.”

“I will say that Pearl Jam specifically has now like even more so been engrained into the world of ‘The Last of Us,’ that if we don’t do that song, well, there’s other songs we could play with.”

How The Last of Us TV show explored more of Jackson than the game

In an interview with Kinda Funny, The Last of Us director Neil Druckmann talked about how the TV show gave him more space to explore the town of Jackson, “One of the things we wanted to do in the game and just couldn’t do it, because we ran out of time and money is we wanted to go into Jackson, so if you look at The Last of Us 1 art book, there’s all this concept art of the inside of Jackson, because that’s where we originally wanted to do, and then we couldn’t pull it off. So it felt like the show gave us this other opportunity.”
