“The Last of the Starks” had 3rd highest viewership numbers in Game of Thrones' history
The ratings may be dropping quicker than Winterfell’s temperature when the Dead arrived, but Game of Thrones Season 8 continues to grab more than a decent amount of eyeballs. Sunday’s episode ‘The Last of the Starks’ had the third highest initial viewership records in the show’s history, Variety reports. A total of 11.8 million people watched the 4th episode during its initial screening.
Episode 3 ‘The Long Night’ had 12.02 million viewers clocking in during its first screening, so the episode 4 numbers are down by about 200,000 views. These are initial numbers from just HBO and does not reflect the cumulative viewership over platforms. Of course, millions of others have been watching through pirated versions as well.
The highest spot in Game of Thrones initial viewership record is still held by Season 7 finale ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’. It was watched by 12.07 million people. But Season 8 episode 4 managed to equal the viewership record of Season 8 premiere episode ‘Winterfell’ and flew well past the numbers for episode 2 ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’.
Fans and Critics alike have expressed disappointment about how the final season is shaping up, but that is not reflected in viewership records. It seems people still want to know how the most popular and certainly the most hyped show in TV history will end.
The year 2020 has proved to be nothing less than a survival show- people struggling to get their life on track. Game of Thrones may have been about the politics of the authority, it had its own survival story. For example, how the Wildlings survived Beyond the Wall. Tormund Giantsbane, the best buddy of Jon Snow, teaches you how to survive with a smile. Kristofer Hivju, who played the wildling on-screen, has a similar attitude in real life. Moreover, he’s back for another adventure with his wife Gry Molvær Hivju.
As if the Red Wedding year wasn’t enough, Hivju is ready to get wild like a real Viking. Hivju’s show, The Ultimate Viking, calls upon its contestants to compete on various rough terrains and survive like a Viking. The show takes its inspiration from the History channel’s famous show the Vikings. The competition will span five weeks as contestants find their Viking-level physicality and mental strength arduously tested. The show hosted by Hivju and his wife will be streamed on the Smithsonian channel.
Even though the Game of Thrones-like scenery might be alluring, the contest is not so easy. Kristofer beat the COVID-19 infection a few months ago and is ready for another adventure. Are you excited about the show? Talk to us in the comments below!
The world is slowly trying to get back on its feet after the events of the Red Wedding year 2020. People are trying to maintain distance from each other as they eagerly wait for a vaccine. Nonetheless, people losing their jobs means there is also a rise in crime rates. In times like these, we wish for a superhero to exist in real life. Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, has also appeared on various superhero movies. He will now play a superhero himself in the Toxic Avenger reboot.
Dinklage has worked with Marvel in the past for movies like X-Men: Days of future past and Avengers: Infinity war. He is no stranger to the superhero genre. Macon Blair of I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore fame is on board to write and direct.
The original Toxic Avenger was released in 1984 by Troma Entertainment. The story follows a 98-pound weakling who falls into a vat of toxic waste, mutating him into a hulking monstrosity. With his new powers, the now-Toxic Avenger (nicknamed Toxie) protects the people of his town from crime and corruption.
Peter Dinklage will also lend his voice in the upcoming animated movie Hitpig. Are you excited about the Toxic Avenger reboot? Talk to us in the comments below!
Game of Thrones ended more than a year ago. The show’s cast has moved on to newer projects already. It is always pleasant to see our favourite stars from the show appear on other shows and movies. Jonathan Pryce, who played the silently dominating High Sparrow, recently joined the cast of All The Old Knives.
The Amazon Prime Video’s espionage thriller is directed by Janus Metz (Borg vs McEnroe). Laurence Fishburne (Matrix, Man of Steel) along with Jonathan Pryce are new additions to the cast. Chris Pine and Thandie Newton are playing the lead roles in the movie.
All the Old Knives is based on a book of the same name by Olen Steinhauer. The author has adapted it for the screen. The story follows ex-lovers Henry (Pine) and Celia (Newton), one a CIA agent and the other an ex-spy. They meet up for a dinner and discuss their times together.
The conversation steers towards a disastrous flight hijack which the CIA could not stop. Henry decides to find out what exactly happened back then.
Jonathan Pryce recently bagged the BAFTA award for his role in Two Popes. He promised to show off the title to his friendly rival on the show, Anthony Hopkins.
