Former Game of Thrones set in Northern Ireland set on fire
It has been 10 years since Game of Thrones first aired on HBO. The show’s graphic scenery was simply breathtaking. Most of the locations where the series was filmed are in Northern Ireland. There was once a time when tourists flocked over to these destinations. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has left these places deserted. Recently, one of the sets that was formerly used to film some of the key scenes was set on fire during a controlled burn, though the reason is not so clear as of yet.
Residents of the Northern Irish village Moneyglass spotted flames and large plumes of smoke at around 6pm at the former Co Antrim filming site of the fantasy television show Game of Thrones. According to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, they were aware of the controlled fire and said those responsible were overseeing the burn. It was a “controlled burn,” meaning this wasn’t a grease fire that got out of hand or anything; they meant to do this, although they are not sure entirely why.

This particular Winterfell set was used for the later episodes of the show, particularly the season 8 episode “The Long Night,” where HBO filmed the brutal battle between the living and the dead. It is sad to see a remnant of Game of Thrones’ glorious past go down in flames, but we do we have other attractions that we can look forward to, like the Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Banbridge, NI.
