Peter Dinklage believes Game of Thrones’ criticism stems from fans having a different version of the story in their head

The tale of Game of Thrones season 8 controversy still lives in the minds of the die-hard fans. It has been two years since HBO’s money-making mint wrapped up filming, but people can’t stop talking about it. After all, the highly popular and record-breaking show divided its fandom with a controversial and a rather rushed-up final season. Not just the fans, but the cast of the series is split up upon the same issue. Some like Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, defend it quite furiously. While others, like Charles Dance, were ready to sign the petition to change the final season. Quite unsurprisingly, Peter Dinklage belongs to the former category.

In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Peter Dinklage discussed why the final season of the show was so widely criticized by a lot of fans. He states the main reason being Game of Thrones amassing such a massive fandom, it was impossible to please everyone.

Dinklage said he tried avoiding the fandom’s chatter from the very start.

“But that was impossible,” Dinklage said. “You’re reminded of it on a daily basis by the fans. They had deep knowledge, but if somebody loves something they have their version of it in their head, so we got criticism early.”

He continued: “Then, when we were leaving, they criticized again because they didn’t want us to go. Some got angry. But if you appeal to everyone you’re doing something wrong. And we offended a lot of people.”
