Interview
Roland Emmerich was so disappointed with Game of Thrones’ ending he approached showrunner Benioff about it
It has been nearly two years since Game of Thrones wrapped up filming. The controversial final season of the show left viewers divided into two groups, one loved and supported it, while there were others who hated it to the extent they demanded a remake. Even the cast seems to be divided on the issue. Some like Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) defend the finale, while others like Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) feel the later seasons were a bit rushed. And then there’s Moonfall director Roland Emmerich, who straight-up confronted the showrunners about the show’s finale.
Speaking to Collider, Emmerich opened up about his love for Game of Thrones, saying he became a fan after initially being a skeptic. When the subject of the show’s ending was then raised, Emmerich replied, “I know David really well, so I said, ‘What the f—k?’” Emmerich did not get into the details of how Benioff responded to his blunt query about the final season.
He did however mention one particular problem he had with the show’s ending, questioning the decision to let Bran win the crown. “I mean, why did this kid who didn’t have anything to do with this whole thing like ends up on the throne?” Emmerich wondered aloud. He concluded, “I have no idea.”
