Emilia Clarke reveals she was scared of losing acting ability after suffering 2 life-threatening brain aneurysms
Game of Thrones has made the careers of many actors for whom it was their first big break. Without a doubt, it was a long and difficult road for most of them. However, we recently learned that Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) had suffered multiple brain aneurysms while in the process of filming the show, which made it an even bigger struggle for her. She recently spoke a bit more about it, and how it scared her that she might affect her ability to act. Read on!
Emilia had talked about her aneurysms in an open letter. Soon after, she went on CBS Sunday Morning and talked about her fears that spawned from her condition. The Daily Mail reports that her second aneurysm was quite serious. It starved her brain of blood for more than a minute. This meant possible brain damage. She said:
“So, they [the doctors] literally were looking at the brain and being like, ‘Well, we think it could be – could be her concentration, it could be her peripheral vision.
I always say it’s my taste in men.”
Always seeing the funny side of things. She went on to talk about the fear that came next:
“For a very long time, I thought it was my ability to act…that was a deep paranoia.”
However, she said that filming for the show helped her recover. Furthermore, she said that it was hard to feel mortal while playing a ‘badass character who walked through fire’. She said:
“You go on the set, and you play a badass character, and you walk through fire, and you speak to hundreds of people, and you’re being asked to be – to work as hard as you possibly can. And that became the thing that just saved me from considering my own mortality, yeah.”
Emilia had also recently talked about how she used her Dothraki lines to keep her brain active. We’re glad the Khaleesi made it out of her situation, perfectly fine. What do you guys think? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
Game of Thrones has been a solid show because of one great quality: it’s not black and white. Every character in the show is painted in a shade of grey. This is to say that they all have their good and bad. Whether we love or hate them is up to us. Speaking of grey, Jacob Anderson, who plays the role of Grey Worm on the show, recently hinted that we’ll be seeing more of this moral grey area in the final season of the show. Read on!
INSIDER asked Anderson how fans will feel about Grey Worm at the end of the show, and he gave an answer that hinted at some tough testing coming at all our loved heroes:
“Oh, that’s a very difficult question to answer.
Grey Worm goes on a journey this year. He’s in unknown territory, and I think people are going to feel very conflicted about every character in this season. And Grey Worm is no exception. That’s what I’ll say.”
He then talked about what it was like to film the gigantic Battle of Winterfell sequence:
“The whole [experience] of this season has been super bittersweet. It’s been amazing, but it’s also been slightly miserable. There were moments when you’re freezing cold, you’ve got this weird chemical fake snow in your face, and there’s real snow, and you’re wearing armor and trying to fight in all this s—– weather, but then occasionally you look around and you’re like ‘Look how amazing this is.’”
He continued:
“There was one point where I honestly couldn’t see any technical equipment and I was like, ‘I’m just here. This is real.’ It was completely immersive – the full set with mist and snow and all these extras fighting and running past. You couldn’t see any of the crew, so you just felt like you were really in ‘Game of Thrones.’”
He also revealed that he was yet to get around and take a proper look at his wrap gift: framed storyboard of a key scene for his character.
We would love to see which scene David and Dan, the showrunners, picked for Anderson. What do you guys think? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
Game of Thrones is coming to an end after nearly a decade of filming. The show was adapted from a series of novels by George R. R. Martin, called A Song of Ice and Fire. The show surpassed the storyline of the books a long time ago, and as we now go into the final season, the book series remains two books away from completion. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin revealed he thinks the show could use some more length. Read on!
Speaking of the end of the show, George said:
“I don’t think it should be the final season. But here we are. It seems to me we just started last week. Has it been longer than that? The time has passed by in a blur. But it’s exciting. I know it’s an end, but it’s not much of an end for me. I’m still deep in writing the books. We saw five other sequel shows in development. I think I’m going to be hanging around Westeros while everyone else has left. (Laughs.)”
He also talked about how happy he is with the progress of the prequel show that’s currently under development. He was then asked about how it was to develop characters like Daenerys and Jon:
“I do it all the time. If you read my book that came out in November, Fire and Blood … boy, I invented a ton of new characters. I wish I was 30 years old instead of 70. I would have more time to write many, many more books about all of these characters. But it is what it is! That was a history book in format, so I just told the stories as summary narratives.”
He also talked about crafting the death of characters, and how he knew when it was time to kill someone off:
“With the major characters, I have had the beats of this planned out since 1994 or 1995. Sometimes, the minor characters, you’re writing a scene about a viewpoint character and then you need someone for him or her to play off of. You add a new character. Sometimes, that character comes alive in a way I hadn’t planned. But there he is, in that scene, and he moves in a new direction. That’s the whole gardener approach. The major characters, though, I know the major strokes. Not with some of the people who have barged in afterward.“
He also revealed that he wasn’t involved much with Season 8 and the end of the show, and gave us a glimmer of hope for the coming of the remaining books in the series:
“Yeah, I’ve been in isolation. My loyal staff — I have a couple of them with me — have chained me to the typewriter. They’re making me eat healthy food. (Laughs.) It’s horrible!”
What do you guys think? Would you want more Game of Thrones seasons? Or is the prequel direction the better one? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
Game of Thrones Season 8 is arriving on 14th and there are many expectations from a number of characters this season. Taking into account Bronn – one of the much-loved characters so far in the series, fans really want him to get the one thing he’s after for many seasons now – a castle! Jerome Flynn – the actor who plays his role recently shared in an interview, that he thinks he might be loved less after Season 8.
Talking to the Insider at the New York City premiere of Game of Thrones Season 8, when asked what fans will feel about his character after the series finale, Jerome revealed:
“I don’t know, they might not love him as much as they do right now. But I hope they still do…He is who he is and what he says, isn’t he? And he’ll do what he needs to get his castle.”
The first episode, as we expect from the recent promo photos, will probably focus on character reunions but I’m excited to watch what Bronn will do once he finds out Jaime is gone from King’s Landing? Will he go after him? Will he fight alongside him? Probably yes. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking from my side, yet I believe he will have a big role to play in the final season. The biggest proof that one can find lies in his character arc development – rising from a mere sellsword to an anointed knight.
And, it’s even possible to have a number of callbacks from Season 3 and 4, when he reunites with Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne at Winterfell. We can definitely hope for some awkward exchanges between the three, something we saw in the final episode of Season 7 when Bronn was sent to escort team Dany to the Dragonpit. While other cast members talk about their hard work and tight filming schedules for the new season, Jerome seems totally cool about it. He says:
“It wasn’t that stressful or strenuous for me…Yeah, that’s all I’m saying. I wasn’t that stressed or strained.”
These two remarks by Jerome Flynn is either intended to throw us away or the actor really wants to wait for something epic from his character in the new season. But, even if we don’t get much from Bronn this season, I totally disagree with Jerome – we are never going to hate his character and will always be hopeful for him getting a castle before the series finally ends.
