Emilia Clarke says she's up for a Daenerys and Yara romance on Game of Thrones
Ships are building up here and there on Game of Thrones, and there are some ships we’d like to see sailing on the show if that is possible, this includes Daenerys’s ships finally reaching Westeros. But those aren’t the ships we’re talking about here. In a world of dying characters, a romance would be nice (unlike that of Shae and Tyrion though). The newest ship on the block is that of Daenerys Targaryen and Yara Greyjoy, who cooked up some serious flirty business in season 6 episode 9, Battle of the Bastards, when Yara and Theon arrived at Meereen after Dany had defeated the slave masters and taken control again. Fans want Daenerys and Yara to get it going while they get their army prepared to sail to Westeros, get the Iron Throne, and give Yara her Iron Islands back.
Now let’s talk about what the actors themselves think about this idea. Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the show, expressed that she would not mind a budding Yara and Dany romance if that were to happen. In fact, she’s quite willing to kick out Daario Naharis as well if it means bringing in the ladies. The episode was ground-breaking in itself, but at the same time, Yara kept the ground smooth enough with her subtle flirting, and Dany was ever so cool with her smirk, looking all smitten with the new admirer.
Emilia Clarke, in a behind the scenes video uploaded by Game of Thrones, said,““There’s like a little, ‘Oh, there’s another badass chick in the place! OK!’ There’s mild flirtation which is exciting to say the least, get rid of Daario bring on the ladies, why not?”
If that wasn’t enough, even Gemma Whelan, the actress who plays Yara Greyjoy thinks Dany and Yara had a spark.“I think Daenerys and Yara like the cut of each other’s jib,”she said.“We’re two strong women, who have had very evil fathers and we just want what’s rightfully ours and I think she respects that. And in return we’ll respect what she wants and change our ways so that we can work together.”
The women did dominate the episode, and the actors agree seeing they fully support the fact that Dany is now going to kick some serious ass since Yara has arrived with a hundred ships from the Iron Fleet. This does increase her chances on finally sailing to Westeros, and much as we’d like to see Dany making her move at last, we’d also appreciate a bit of fiery romance between the two badass queens-to-be.
