Game of Thrones prequel might start filming in Belfast in October
Most of the filming for Game of Thrones season 8 has already been wrapped up and the team is now going into its post-production. The final season of this epic fantasy series, which began in 2011, will be aired in 2019 with its final six episodes and will finally end for good.
But, the World of Ice and Fire is vast, has a long history, and numerous backstories, which deserves a television adaptation. It hasn’t been long since it was announced that five distinct prequel series to the current events were under development. One of those, being developed by Jane Goldman and George R. R. Martin was rumoured to go under production by HBO.
Eventually, it was recently confirmed by the Belfast Telegraph that the filming for the Game of Thrones prequel series will begin in Belfast in October, 2018. According to them:
“Staff at the Paint Hall studios in the city’s Titanic Quarter have been briefed that their next major project will be a series set 1,000 years before the events of the fantasy drama.”
With this news, we can accurately guess that the prequel series will be about the Long Night. This also means that the pilot for the series will be filmed sooner than previously expected and the series will definitely air by 2020, as per the longings of the HBO team.
The name for ‘the successor shows’, as George RR Martin likes to call them, hasn’t been announced yet,. As suggested by George, the series has a working title of ‘The Long Night’.
George was a part of the production of Game of Thrones until 2014 and is expected to return for this prequel series too. However, it will be really interesting to see how well the series will compete with the original series of Game of Thrones, with David Benioff and D. B. Weiss going off-board.
