Game of Thrones Season 7 ended on a pretty high note. Well, in a way. ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’ was 80 minutes of pure thrill, and the climax was solid. The Wall collapses, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen make love, and the most pondered over part : Tyrion‘s worried look as he realizes that the Khaleesi and the King in the North are getting in on. We saw a rather tensed Tyrion leave us with a look that we have been speculating over quite a lot.
Does he love Daenerys? Could he have made some sort of a deal with the devil (yes, Cersei)? Or maybe, is he just concerned for the Targaryens beginning their new incestuous relationship? Director of the episode, Jeremy Podeswa, has now explained what Tyrion’s look was all about, in a new interview with Mashable. Read on!
Podeswa said the look was mostly political concern :
“That moment, for me, was… really about Tyrion having witnessed what he witnessed this year, having a great deal of concern about what the consequences of this might be in the future,” he said. “There was a previous understanding of what the alliance between all these parties was about, and now that’s complicated by the fact that there’s a more intimate relationship we see [between] two of the key players in this alliance, one of whom is the person he’s really devoted his life to at this point: Daenerys.”
Podeswa also said that it’s not that Tyrion is in love with her like Ser Jorah is, he still has a reason to be insecure :
“For Tyrion it’s a combination of admiration and respect and love in a certain way, but it’s different with him… I think it’s more intellectual, and more philosophical, his connection to her.”
He explained some more :
“Now Jon will more than likely have a larger role to play, and what kind of choices is Daenerys going to make now that she has changed the dynamic between her and Jon?” Podeswa mused. “Is she now going to make choices based on the fact that she has an intimate relationship with him, or is she still going to be as pragmatic and strong as she would otherwise be? All that is a question now, and as her chief strategist – as her Hand – not being able to see what the future holds is a worry.”
As far as Tyrion having betrayed Daenerys to Cersei, Podeswa thinks its not the case right now, but that going forward “it could go either way.” What do you guys think? Could Tyrion have betrayed Daenerys? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
